Due Date Club March 2009:baby cots, what kind and where

We went to look at cots/cribs today and couldn' t make out whether the ones we liked were too big, too small etc. etc. I badly need advice from all of you, especially the mommies who already have kids. How big should a cot be? How long should it fit the baby? How much do babies grow in a year? What happens when they start to crawl? How tall should the bars be? Never mind if I sound dumb ladies :-) please help. Also, what are the good places in Delhi where one can go to buy cots and other baby stuff?

hi
I would suggest instead of going for a cot or a crib go for a cotbed kind ..its useful for a longer time.
While making a choice consider:-
1) As mel said the cot shuld have two mattress levels...also keep in mind your bed' s height(i have a low bed hence had to choose accordingly).
2) Prefer one with plastic coated wood rail.
3) if you can get one with drawers beneath..it wuld be great for storage of blankets n all.
4) Prefer something that can be completely dismantled and stored...In case u have plans for the second kid.

In Delhi i would suggest go to Mothercare(i guess in Noida). Thats the best one. I am using one from mothercare and haven' t had a chance to complain yet.

take care

Personally, we didn' t use the crib. It' s so much easier to breastfeed, soothe and rock a baby back to sleep when he' s next to you.

Next best option, is a crib where one side rail can be collapsed. So, you can join the crib to the side of your bed when you sleep at night, and raise the railing in the day.

If you do buy a crib, keep a few things in mind:

1. Buy a good brand which adheres to safety standards. The rods should be not more than 7 inches apart.
2. The level of the mattress should be adjustable, so as the baby grows older, you can shift the mattress down, so that he cannot climb out and fall.
3. A bigger crib is always better, as it can be used for a long time. You get a cot which is a baby cot, and a cot bed, which can be converted into a child sized bed later on. A cotbed may be a bit more expensive, but will be useful longer.

Lifecell is the best
yes Life cell is the best, when ourbabygirl was due in Feb 2011 we shortlisted Lifecell after meeting Cyrobanks, Relicord, Babycord etc. Cyrobanks are thugs they promise you the moon and also there is no indian hand in this company so we can' t rely on them at all. Relicord is good but the offers have so much marketing gimmicks. Other players lacks either the technical inf... - CK [View Message]

Avoid Beena Jaysingh. We' ve got seriously burnt up by Dr. Beena Jaysingh of Apollo Bellandur. Dr Beena is highly unprofessional and always behind money. She is incompetent and doesn' t understand patient problems and needs. Whenever we went to her for my wife' s pregnancy she wrote all the available tests without even asking and thinking.
