dear friends, hi
my due date is may 19, 2004 and i'm in my 29th week now. i read this message board daily and to tell you all the fact, it answers all the questions i would have in my mind. that's one more reason for me, that i never wrote to you all. but i've a strange feeling these days. my doc told me that my baby's in breech position, and i've still got time, before the baby moves head down. also, since i've lot of acidity and gastric trouble, the doc said it is one reason that i'm unable to feel the baby's movement that much. also, i read that the baby responds to noise and all that. i don't know whether i'm being over consious or hyper but i feel the baby doesn't react to any noise. even when i tell my husband to speak to the baby, there is no reaction from the baby's side. he tells me that i'm over reacting and that such small baby, it must be reacting but maybe we are not able to make out. it might me moving its head or looking out from where the sound is coming, but not be reacting the way i want. also, i have heard that it is always good to sleep on your sides and not on your back. why so.... they also say that by the 8th month it becomes difficult to sleep on your back that we ourselves sleep on to our sides, but with me when i change position while sleeping, i unknowingly sleep on my back without any problem, but when i realise that i'm sleeping on my back i immediately change the position, lest i harm my baby.
i know the message is too long....but these apprehensions keep moving in my mind and i find myself always thinking abt. them. expecting answers from my friends....

sharmila replied. Glad to hear that our board has been a very informative to you.I am in my 36th week now and to be frank, my baby has not reaponded to any noise or even my hubby's voice till now.It happens in a few cases, but nothing to worry if it is otherwise. Sometimes, we dont feel the movements if they are very light. I have also read that the baby will respond if you flash a torch light on your tummy in the 8th month. But this did not happen either. I used to feel lesser movements at timea and did the non stress test a couple of times. Both times, the machine had recorded so many movements that I never felt externally. Only after this I was convinced that the baby was okay.
I had started sleeping on my left side since 3rd month and till mid 8th month I used to turn on my back without my knowledge just like you. It happens with all. But now even if I go on my back by mistake, I get up immediately coz I feel suffocated and lose my breath. So, all this is normal. Dont worry.Easy said, but I also had these doubts and fears earlier. Take care of your health and the baby will be fine......

Hi Radhika,
Welcome to the board. This is Mansi and I am in my 31st week. Archie's reply is a very detailed one and she did cover everything.
If your doc said everything is fine and is happy about baby's growth and heartbeat range there is no need to worry. Try to walk for some time and then rest on your bed lying on the left side this is usually what the docs recommend to wake a sleeping baby. Also check for movements after taking some sweets.
Hope this helped!

Archie replied. Hi Radhika,
Your concerns are perfectly normal and so is your husband.
Breech baby won't show that strong movement like head up babies. As long you feel even small movements couple of times a day is perfectly fine. Should you get more concerned see your Dr. and hear heartbeat, way to assure all is fine.
Baby must be responding to sounds you two make, only you are not feeling them strong and that's fine. Watch out for movements after intake of liquid and meal. Within an hour or so baby will start moving.
Remember at the stage you are baby is big and does not find enough space to make those all swing movements. It may only kick a few times in a day and that's good enough for you to assure.
Yes, you are going to be fabulous mother.
Sleeping on your left side is the best position this will help better blood circulation. Due vessels on right side and pressure on your back sleeping on right side or back is not recommended. However, occasional turning on these side won't affect baby's need.
Good luck.

selvi replied. Hi radhika, my due date is so close to yours its may 18th. i have also not felt that many movements. I think I know my babys schedule now and just keep a check that I get good movements atleast 3-4 times a day. also the only time i felt the baby responding to sound was when I watched lord of the rings in the theater and it was very loud. i dont go to movies after that.

welcome to our board.i think ur husband is right.u r being too apprehensive.ur baby must be responding to sounds but not in the way u want it to.if u have concerns talk to ur doc and u will feel relieved.
it is advised not to sleep on ur back coz the weight of the baby completely falls on ur backbone leading to backache.for better blood supply to baby u should try to sleep on ur left side as much as u can.accidentally rolling over to ur back is normal and we all do it,so dont panic.when u realize just turn over to ur sides.
take care
