Hi,
I too have a 7 week baby and was facing the same problem. Then I read somewhere that it' s common for babies to suck their hands/ thumbs, Instead of pulling out the hand away from the baby try distracting him with rattles or musical toys or just talking to him in an excited manner. Also what was suggested is that you let your baby suckle for as long as he wants. Babies usually take how much milk they need in the first 6-8 minutes and then just continue to suckle. It gives them comfort and security. Earlier even I used to get confused as to why my baby was so inclined, but apart from conveying hunger it is also used to convey the need to suckle.
Oh! and please watch your babies weight to ensure that he us getting enough milk to help him grow well. Coz I also found that my milk was not sufficient for my baby and she didn' t put on enought weight. For that reason I introduced Formula milk in her diet as well. and touchwood she has put on weight, but of course faces the other common problems like gas & occassionally constipation till her little tummy gets adapted to the formula milk.
Good luck. and love to your little angel.

hello jayashree
dont get afraid and dont loose hopes, your son is absolutely fine, and give him the proper tuition and avoid more playing periods of his, and you should teach him at home when you will get free time.... - praglabh [View Message]
