Name: concerned abt my pregnancy

Hi,
I am planning to conceive my first baby. My height is 5.4 and my present weight is ard 70 KG. I waana know if I am overweight for conceiving.

As i heard one gains 10-12 kgs during pregnancy that means i will be around 80-82 while giving birth to my first child. Is it okay or should i reduce my weight. Actually, its now 1.5 years of my marriage and since then i have gains ard 10 kgs.

Please also let me know what other things i can plan or do before conceiving my baby.

Pls suggest asap.

Regards

Yes you are a little over weight but not too much. I doubt very much that your weight will have any negative impact on conceiving a child. In situations where weight does come into play the person in question is grossly overweight!!!

Now with regard to weight gain through pregnancy that is absolutely normal and necessary! Its an important factor in birthing a healthy child. Lets assume that 13 kg is the average weight gain for a pregnancy... Where does that weight go?

*Approx 1.3kg for extra blood to supply baby with nutrients.
*Approx 1kg for your brests
*Your womb will weigh another 1kg by the time baby is born
*Baby will weigh approx 3.4kg
*Placenta will be about 1kg also
*Approx 1kg for amniotic fluid
*Add 3kg for fat, protein & other nutrients the body must store to maintain a healthy pregnancy
*And last but not least add another 1 1/2 kg for fluid retention

If you add that up it works out to be 13.2kg actually. None of the weight gain is body mass, its all preparing & maintaining your body through the pregnancy and making allowences for baby's weigh etc. Do not worry about gaining weight. All this weight will shed with in about 6 weeks of having your child... All the best

Dear K. Radha,

Thanks for sharing this infomation with me.

Can u also advise me what are things i should do before conceiving my baby os that baby doesn't have any deficiency.

I am a working woman. Don't u think 80.3kgs will be to much for me to work in my office. I plan to reduce me weight by 5 kgs (and make it ard 65). But i don't mean to reduce any nutrition in my body though. Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help. Warm regards,

diet during pregnancy
Maintaining a healthy diet during pregnancy is very important.

During this time, your body needs additional nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

In fact, you may need 350–500 extra calories each day during the second and third trimesters.

A diet lacking in key nutrients may negatively affect the baby’s development.
