Dear Trups,

I thought of replying your post as a new thread. This response is connected to your query on discharge.

The vaginal discharge, which is very normal in pregnancy has no odour or color. Only it can be thicker towards the end of the term.

Any discharge that has tint of some color may be a sign of infection. Although this is sensitive time every infection can be taken care. There are a few antibiotics those are safe at different stages of pregnancy and some work through out the pregnancy without affecting developing fetus.

What you are having may not be an infection but a possibility of mind infection can not be ruled out. Just to ease your mind and clear the doubt and infection (if that's what you have), please, bring this point to your Drs. attention. He/she may want you to give clinical sample to culture and may prescribe some antibiotic. I hope Trups this will help you.

If this turns out to be an infection let me know will help you giving tips to avoid such incidences for future.

Archie

Subject:  Just discuss with your Dr.

Dear Trups,
I think your mind should be at ease with these results.

My suggestion would be to discuss with your Dr. about results and your confusion about colored discharge, which is not very common. Your Dr. may order culture by taking a fresh vaginal swab, just to be on confident side.
But from present reports you may not have an infection if you do not have any burning sensation while urination and do not have any pain in abdoment and this might be normal in your case.

When is your next appointment? Usually around 12-15 weeks of pregnancy your Dr. will do all sorts of test and that time you will know if any slight mild undetected infectious agent is existing in your blood or urine. Ask your Dr. when is your next routine blood culture and different blood tests!

Keep me updated and any single discomfort should be brought to your Drs. attention, he/she will treat you on priority when you are pregnant.

About eating healthy diet. You can eat fresh fruits, vegetables and sweets made at home. If you are not non-vegetarian remember to be good on Dairy products, milk in particular. If one milk does not suit to you then try other types and keep drinking at least 3 glasses each day. Eat dahi (yogurt). This will help you keeping healthy pregnancy.

Good luck
Archie

Subject:  Weight Gain

Dear Trups,
Let me first clarify you don't bother me at all!
It's always good to have every doubt clarified and you are doing that, which is good thing!

Normally while pregnant (given BMI -body mass Index in the normal range) one will gain weight about 25-35 pounds for singlet while for twins it's 30 -40 pounds.
This is just an idea not necessarily every one is obliged to stay in the limit. If you are gaining little less and ultrasound shows baby is fine and development is appropriate nothing to worry (which will be clear around week 20). It's however important that one does not cross higher limit as that may indicate some water retention and may sometime be a sign of Pre-eclampsia ( you don't want to know at this stage or worry about it -this is a complication in third trimester).

It's very normal not to gain weight in first trimester. Normally weight gain for first trimester is 2-3 pounds. Infact due to severing morning sickness loose weight in first trimester, and still it's fine and nothing will go wrong with baby/babies.

When you pick up on hunger, eat healthy and nutritionally rich food, most important is hygenic. Do not eat outside, say good bye to take out or restaurant.

If you don't have any weight gain from week 16 onward then you will have to concern your Dr.

Hope this is going to clarify your basic doubt about weight gain.

Subject:  Today i went for HVS(swab test)

Hi Archie,
As u told me i called my Doc & she told me to have a High Vaginal Swab test to detect any infections. My reports will come on Saturday.
Actually the climate here is hot & humid(like in Arizona) & ppl do often have infections.I too had some infections before concieveing & am scared of them coz they reoccur again soon.
I would definitely like to know some precautionary measures to keep them at bay.I just know that we must drink a lot of water but if i drink much water my tummy feels bloated & i feel very uncomfy & cant eat.
Does eating eggs or chicken is not good? Some of my friends told not to eat papaya, pineapple, mangoes, eggs & chicken. Is that ok?
Thank u very much for everything.
Take care......will let know abt my reports(sat'day).

Dear Trups,
There is lot I hear even on this site from different people that puts me in question although I know for sure it's not correct.
Ex. eating Mango, some tell it's not fair. My neighbor only ate Mango, from unrippen to rippen through out her two trimesters and have her son healthy and touchwood, 16 year old boy at this moment.

But there are a few things Dr. will advise not to eat and it's good to avoid those.

About Eggs, I think they won't suit usually to you in first trimester, due to Morningsickness. Raw eggs are enemey of pregnancy, good source of Salmonella like bacteria and can cause infections! So Stay out of raw eggs and salads those you are not made at home, again it's matter of hygine.
Avoid raw egg containing salad dressings.

Reduce coffine intake, means coffee, tea or caffinated drinks.

About pineapple and Papaya, talk to your Dr. Of if you like stay out of them, just don't want to get in contraversy.

About UTI:
Keep bladder empty as much as you can. Go to restroom, while on bowl following your urination, lean forward to emtpy bladder content.
Watch on food you eat.
Clean vaginal area at each shower time.
Wipe each time after restroom with a clean non scented, uncolored tissue (white soft tissue is good).
No matter what you feel after drinking water but you have to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. I used to drink almost 4 liters of water in first trimester now too I drink about 3 liters of water.
Do not wear tight panties.
Wear panties those are loose and smooth cotton textured.

Hope this will help keeping healthy throughtout the pregnancy.

Archie
