Hi

Its really a tough decision. There are positive things and negative things both.
1.Lot of freedom, many different kind of opportunities.
2.You have to do all the work( cleaning dishes, cooking ,laundry, ironing, all the kids work etc ..) yourself, and with a year old baby it becomes hectic ( its not unmanageable).
3.You can learn to drive and go with your baby everywhere ,you can also make use of the buses.
4. There are libraries in every locality, they have story time etc for kids of all ages.Even some malls have play area.
5.If you have H1B you can always work, but if you are working now and come here and sit at home with your kid for the whole day , it sometimes becomes very frustrating ( thinking i had a good job , good salary etc etc ).

Yes ,in Bay Area there are lot of Indians , you can even get help ,Indian ladies for cooking. Playschool, day care facilities are also available, there are a lot of playgroups too.
For work from home option it depends on the company in which you are working and also you can try doing projects from home .
Last but not the least ,if you caome here ,come mentally prepared for
everything.
Hope this helps

These are all according to my point of view .I am a stay at home with two kids and I stay in southern california.

All the Best !

dont get afraid and dont loose hopes, your son is absolutely fine, and give him the proper tuition and avoid more playing periods of his, and you should teach him at home when you will get free time.... - praglabh [View Message]
