Hi Everyone. i have a 4 month old girl who is bottle feed expressed breastmilk. from the past 2 weeks she has been turning away when offered the bottle, crying when we try to feed her. she does not spill up any milk, doctor is not sure why either. i am very worried as her intake has REALLY gone down and she is losing weight. any advice? that would be really helpful. thanks guys. 1. change the nipple,,look for the infant nipple size ! see if that works.
2. try changing the formula,,see if that works.
3. sudden loss of apetite might be due to some sickness on the way,,so keep an eye on her intake,,,get her checked by your dr for ne unseen activities or responses from her !
4. check her gums,,might be teething,,check if hard, swolln, reddish or pinksh,,might be teethng so does not like to drink ne fluid,,,applying orajel(US) or if you are in some other country,,if you see signs of teethng,,ask your dr about some soothng gel or some tablets that can help her !
5. can you check on your diet,,,taste of BM is affectd by mothers diet intake,,try to eat other foods and see if she accepts your bm/expressed bottle bm..sometimes some tastes esp the bitter gourd and such carry on to BM and bm taste bitter,,and making child reject the bm,,see if you could have ne such strong flavourd food and might have made her reject the bm.
6. check on her bowels, try to introduce formula, mix the formula 50% with BM and see if she starts acceptng that mixture..
7. how are you storing BM ? sometimes improper BM storage might cause bm to smell or taste differntly,,,so make sure to check the intruction on la lache league or medella dot com for proper guidelines on storing or expressng BM
8. drink lots of water during expressng/pumping milk,,might help...

check with your dr,,this should not continue longer or your child needs an immediate care/dr attn.
