My son is 8 months old. During delievry , liquor in the uterous was reduced. But pains were not started. 2-3 injections were given to start labou r pains. But it could not work.So cesarean operation was carried out. Baby was facing respiration problem at the time of birth and she was suffering with cerebral odema. So she was immediately admitted in ICU. She was there for 13 days.
Manitol, Dopamine and fortum were given. Gardinal (30 mg) was given for 3 months.
He can roll vey well. But
1) he can not sit
2) he can not crawl
3) He does not recognize me and my husband
4) he does not give social smile
My questions are
1) Is he mentally retarted ?
2) What are the side effects of Manitol , Gardinal
3) What is the reason of reduction in fluid in uterus.
I am vey much worried . Can anybody answer my queries? Can anybody share his experience ? Pl. reply.

Hi ....first of all dont worry as the child can always sense your worries. if you live in the UK go & see your health visitor asap if not , you should go & see your pediatrician soon wherever you live as unless you know whats going on your mind will not be at rest. a lot of Children often dont sit or crawl even until they are 11 mths ( my son didnt) and then suddenly pick up, but yes when you say he is not smiling ... it would be a cause for concern .... dont leave it late .....go to the doc asap ti find out.

hi rachana,
my son is now 2yrs old, as far as sitting ,crawling even my son couldnt do them at 8months.but when he was 9months old he started sitting and crawling and by the age of 11 he was walking. So every child is unique.some achieve milestones at very early age and some take time.dont worry about that.i dont remember if my son used to recognise me and my husband but he used to smile all the time when he sees people.I think its better if u talk to ur ped.

hello jayashree
dont get afraid and dont loose hopes, your son is absolutely fine, and give him the proper tuition and avoid more playing periods of his, and you should teach him at home when you will get free time.... - praglabh [View Message]
