I have a 2 month old son, he does not sleep properly on his back, he gets up within few minutes due to burp problem, he sleeps properly only if I make him sleep on the shoulder for about 2-3 hours at a time...I try to burp him after feedings...he does burp...but it seems never enough....he sleeps only 11-12 hours cumulative in the whole day...the maximum stretch of sleep at a time is only when he sleeps on shoulder...I was wondering if anybody had some suggestions for me...I am getting very tired trying to make him sleep properly.

Hetal replied. 1. at first i want you to check the post on colic, gas and reflux to make sure whats going on with him :
a breastfeed takes long time in burping is because mothers diet,,,try to minimize dairy, check on beans and rice,,go the simple diet,,avoid spices,,esp the chillies,,if you are having enough garlic, make sure to drink good dairy, 3times a day,,to eliminate the reflux effects of garlic !
ne burping that is more than 15mins,,needs your dr attention !!
dont get tired, dont get worried,,its perfectly commmon for babies this old to fuss when it comes to sleepng,,he does not feel comfortable on back after feeds it means that :
1. he might be overfed,,if on formula, 2months old is expected to drink :
6–10 feedings of 2–4 ounces each or 6-8 bf session in 24hourrs.
2. he might be suffrng from reflux,,reflux babies dont like to sleep on back,,check if he likes to sleep on one of his sides,,,make him sleep alternately,,,and see if that makes him sleep better.
3. make him sleep elevated ! it might help !
4. give him warm bath before sleep..avoid excess burping,,give him a good lukewarm oil massage and thn a good bath,,and then a good feed,,,and let him relax and sleep...when the burping prolongs,,babies overtires and often does not like to sleep well.
5. if baby is suffrng from colic, check the post in point number 1 and talk to your dr accordingly...
overtired, overstimulated babies dont sleep well,,make sure to give him a good playtime and then reelax him with some soothing music,,sometimes relaxing your baby might help in burping !! overactive baby is not able to digest feeds well !!!
so check on these and i would recmnd you to consult your dr,,because burping should not last longer thn 15-20mins,..irrespective of breastfeed or formula baby..
Take care of yourself,,make your body muscles free,,with tensed body muscles,,baby feels the tensions,,check the effects of tensed body and how it effcts baby development,,you will find diff posts in breastfeeding board.there we had discussd it recently..
so take a break and give yourself some rest,,ask for help from friends, or dh if ne is avaiable...its better to do instead of being in position where baby and mother both end up crying and mother feels frustrating enough to throw the baby away !! yes,,it has happend,,,scary though it sounds,,is all because of all these tiny issues only...
so rest yourself, and ask your dr if your baby needs help aid or ne medication...dont let your baby suffer more in burping,,it will just tire him !
take care, good luck

My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
