Due Date Club September 2004:dum MIL

Name: margi shukla

Hi Friends!

My MIL is educated and hells from one of the metro city with cultured family back ground. She have two kids and was having nuclear family. so, she had full responsibility of upbringing of two kids, & her both kids are o.k.

but, now problem is she is not giving proper upbringing of my kid. she doesn't know how to play or teach new things to small kid. (She is not talketive at all) but she always takes my kid and sitting on the swing and just making my son to learn only ha...ham voices. she is really dum but having false ego that she can take care of kid very good. Though i left the job and giving maximum attention to my kid for making him learn so many things as he is not 11 months old. but could not tell my MIL that just teach some of the new things to my son.

Pl. help me what should i do? how can i tell my MIL to understand my problem and teach my son some good things.

reply me soon.

Take it easy Margi! Don't use so harsh words for your MIL. I don't know if you have any other problem with her or not. But if all is well and the only problem is that she is unable to teach your child as per how you want then I think you should take your words back. After all she is of your mother's age... we should learn to respect them.
My apologies if I have hurt your feelings but I think if you think with a cool mind you will agree with me.

On how to make her realise the new methods of teaching a child is probably that you yourself set an example infront of her. Take all new educational toys and books infront of the baby and let your MIL realise herself without you telling her specifically the difference of how you teach and how your MIL use to teach. I know its difficult to change anyone at this age but this is the only way of making her realise. If tell her specifically you may get into an argument. You might want to engage a full time maid for your household work and look after your child yourself infront of your MIL. I think this will help.
Or probably you take her to someone known to you whose child is of your child's age and with whom you agree with on how to bring the child up.

All the best!
