Well as you all know, I was 40 weeks and 3 days and still doing fine. The NSTs were fine, but I was restless and wanted to get over with this waiting. My doc was ready to wait for some more time. But we decided that we will go ahead with the induction.

On Tuesday I was called for induction. The pitocin started taking effect within half an hour. INitially they gave me low doses to see how the baby and I were doing. When the signs were good the nurse would increase the dosage almost every 20 minutes and check for dilation. From 2 I dilated to 4. All this while I could bear the pain. It was 12.00 pm by then. My doc decided to break the water. Now the pain was unbearable and I deided to go for epidural. So by 12.30 the epidural was administered. I was fine within 20 minutes. Then the contractions came and went, and I was resting and talking peacefully. And you will not beleive it, I dilated from 5 to 10cm by 2.15 pm. The doc and nurse were surprised too. My doc left me to see another patient. The nurse started the preparations. They asked me to practice pushing till the doc arrives. But my baby was in a hurry. By the time I pushed twice, the head was showing. The doc had to be called immediately. The baby's heart rate was dropping. The nurse asked me to stop pushing. The doc arrived almost immediately and by the time I pushed for the 3rd time, the baby was out. It was great. But I must tell you, the epidural is a blessing. It makes childbirth enjoyable. I saw the placenta, and I could my son being cleaned at a distance. The moment he was clean they handed him over to me.

He weighed 7 lbs and 5 oz at birth and measured 19 inches.

Today I went with him for the first pediatric check up and he has already gained weight. He weighs 7 lbs and 10 oz. The doc is very happy with the progress.

I know the birth story written by me is very antiseptic, kinda with no feelings. Thats because, I am in a hurry and also because, I did not want to miss any details re. the birth. I love my son and enjoy him every moment.
