hi.. my son was the same! when he was fussing, ( he was colicky in the first 2 months) he wanted to be carried only and that too with him on my shoulder and with me walking about. if i sat down he would scream.
now he is 7 months old and has gradually over come it..i stay in india and we can use the jula here.. so instead of carrying him i started swinging him in the jula.. but this was only when he was calm, else if he was screaming it was back on my soulder with me walking, jumping and cooing!
these days i dont need to do that.. he falls asleep with a feed or in the jula.. but when he has a cold etc.. he demands to be on the shoulder only and with me walking.
so just check to make sure he doesnt have a blocked nose or something..
but babies very young do not know how to go to sleep on thier own.. we have to help! so carrying ,swaying and singing are the ways.
at night time though wat i do is keep the room dark with just a low night lamp on before putting him to sleep. then i also keep the room quiet and sing softly to him. this calms him down a lot.. so when he gets calm, i feed him. most of the times he goes to sleep with the feed, if not after his feed i just put him on the bed and lie down next to him, after a few min he nods off! a bed time routine in the night helps a lot!
hope this is helpful!

Hi,

Even my baby was like dat.Once he feels sleepy he will be very irritated..he will scrach his eyes and face like anything and will hurt himself and then cry.Even i had to carry him for more than an hr to make him sleep. He will resist when we make him swing in hand. Finally we used cloth cradle to rock him to sleep.Even then sometimes it used to take more than 30min.Even i had lost my patience many times..But now he is 1 year.He is improved a lot.

So i feel that there is no need to worry much.Be patient..dats all wat i can suggest.
After long struggle, once he gets sleep, will he sleep undisturbed?

I think that is normal, my baby does that too. Sometimes she will fall asleep after she eats or while I'm burping her. Maybe your baby didn't eat enough? We also use a pacifier which helps a lot. Also, our baby was having gas problems so we gave her gripe water. That seemed to settle her down a lot too. But try not to get frusterated, becasue if you are stressed, your baby will be too.

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
