Recently I went to Tirumala to offer my hair(tonsure). I had to sit in front of a young male barber. I felt uncomfortable when he was shaving near my nape. That time there was a talk of women barbers to be appointed shortly. I read in new papers recently that they have decided against it. it is really bad for many women who offer their hairto god. Women barbers must be appointed at the earliest.

Hi Kalyani,
My name is Priya, I live in Delhi. A few weeks ago i wrote a message that I have to offer my hair to the god as well. I am still gathering my courage to be brave enough to go to tiruapti and do that.
Please tell me if you had a good experience and would you encourage me to go through. I have not heard about this matter about male barbers. I am sure a woman can feel very uncomfortable in this regard.
Also did you have a headshave or just got a little hair cut, because I took a vow to get them all shaved and now I feel scared to be bald.
Hope it does not hurt when then shave the head.
And do you know how long would it take to grow it back, if have them shaved.

you can go ahead with your vow cooly. there are 400 women who offer their hair everyday. get the tonsure done by a old barber. it will not hurt you (truly it is a nice experience) and you will have your hair (shoulder length) ready in about 6-8 months.
