Crying & Colic:Pls suggest another solid for a five mnth old

My baby boy is 5 mnths old now.I am breast feeding him.A week ago I started raagi.(only once a day).Now i feel he needs more than that now .He is healthy and has a good weight.Please can anyone suggest a few other foods for my baby.Will it be necessary to add formula milk also to his diet?Can i give him boiled and mashed fruits.Here(Saudi Arabia) we get jars of fruit extracts called Gerber -is it advisable to give them to the baby.Please let me know.As I am here I need some advice.

Hi rekha,
I resumed office when my baby started her 5th month. other than raagi I used to give her fruit pulp..chikoo, apple (apple has to be bolied and then mashed)....I used to give her home made cerelac..
preparation:
wash , dry , roast and powder rice and moong dal (1:4) then powder it. whenever you want to prepare the feed boil it in water or milk, add sugar for taste.
remember one thing..whenever you start something new..if you feel that it does not suit your child then stop it immediately.

Sugar is not good

Hi Amrutha,

Please take note that it is not good to introduce sugar in a childs diet upto 1 year. Baby doesnt understand taste and eats whatever u give. Avoid sugar till 1 year...

Hi Amrutha,

Thanks a lot for your help.Well I tried your recipie and have now been giving it for a a couple of days.My son seems to like it .Isn't there another home made stuff with a few dals, rice ,wheat etc.?Do you know anything about that?Whats your daughters name and how old is she?My sons name is Nikhil.Thanks once again.Keep in touch when you get time.
