Hi All,

We are planning to move in a duplex house. Both of bedrooms are at first floor. As present my baby is 17th months old. We are thinking to put gate at staircase but apart from that if anybody has personal experience so please let me know what other problems you faced in duplex house.
Thanks a lot

I'm living in a duplex house too and have 11 month old baby. I have wooden bars fixed at both ends of the stairs. The bedrooms are upstairs and the kitchen and living area being downstairs.
My daughter is always attracted to the stair gates since it prevents her from climbing the stairs.
One big problem I face is during mornings when I'm alone with her in the house. My daughter wakes up after 7:30 or so and that's the peak time for me to finish the cooking, attend to maid servants, etc. So I have to keep running up and down to manage my cooking and keep checking on if she is awake and needs me. My concern is that she should not cry while waking up finidng nobody in the room.
Well one advantage is, I've lost some weight moving up and down :)

i had same setup sometime back. gate works best. make sure to get the one that is sturdy, of good hght and has one hand locking system !
your baby is 17months old, soon she will be able to figure out how to open it, say by 2years..but worth buying until thn ! let the baby sleep, play around you or in dining, living area...
check for good brands in eopinions dot com and see what fits in your budget..
also, make sure to unlock/disable all the locks of the doors which are on ground flour,,esp the bathroom and closet ones...
instead of those automatic locking system,,let the doors have safety locks,,these all are available in kids stores/babyrus,toyrus, walmart and such in US....m not sure about Indian markets....this will ensure safety and wont lock your child inside the room or closet,,even though he happens to slam the door while playing or cruising around !
hope this helps,take care.

I am living in single family house where all the bedrooms and bath are upstairs.i too have gates for the stairs.if you have basement then you can get a door knob lock ,so she wont be able to open the basement door.if you dont want your baby nap in the bedroom you can get a play pen and keep it in your living area so she can have naps there.

hello jayashree
dont get afraid and dont loose hopes, your son is absolutely fine, and give him the proper tuition and avoid more playing periods of his, and you should teach him at home when you will get free time.... - praglabh [View Message]
