Breastfeeding:advice on vegi diet
2006-10-15
Name: pp

My baby boy is 2month old and has colic. He sometimes gets irritable when I breastfeed. My doc advise me to try to change my diet. As a Indian vegi mom it's hard to cut certain things. Please give me advice on what dals and foods are good for a vegi mom breast feeding that will not cause gas to my baby.

light dals are
moong - yello is lightest, or green. Better try yello
masoor, arhar is heavier. You can try adding them to ur diet like 'sarkaar' has suggested
avoid chana, rajma, chhole, maah till baby is settled with diet and new world

veggies
lauki, turai, tinda are lighter
next comes cauliflower, bhindi, beans, cabbage (donno why but the doc asked me to avoid cabbage family for first 2-3 months)
then come heavier ones - potato, arabi, baigan etc

Normally, i found the first 2 levels easy for the baby.

Add lots of salad and greens to your diet. Take them as soups or like 'sarkaar' does - boil and lightly fry them. Add pepper and salt to taste.
or make sandwiches.

u can hv sooji kheer, rice kheer, sweet daliya, namkeen daliya with lots of vegetables, namkeen khichdi with lots of veg, cornflakes, etc

whenever u try a new thing, start with small quantity and check

all the best!

I am a veggie too.

i had a diff problem. When 15 days old, my baby started passing frequent but v small motions (small spoonful). They were as frequent as \" continuous\" - u change a nappy and she passes stools.
The doc said everything was normal, and probably the stools were frequent because my milk was \" rich\" in quality.

i too had to change my diet sometimes when the baby had trouble.
this is what i did

- assumed a standard diet for me (everything that u eat in a day) for yourself and noted it down. Mine included
lunch/dinner = yellow-moong dal, lauki sabji, 3-4 rotis, cucumber tomtotoes, curd
early morning - milk
mid morning sweet daliya with milk ghee sugar
4 pm milk
evening snacks included combinations of these - boiled veg lightly fried in ghee/fruits/gond laddoo/marie biscuits/cerelac+milk (yes! i like it)/fruit juice/soup/sandwich made from wheat bread

- also calcium and iron supplements

- whenever i felt need to change my diet, i used to take out the doubtful thing from my diet and then check

- gradually, i started changing diet so that baby adjusts to eat. For eg, started with little arhar daal, potato and gradually increased it

- my baby was having lot of gas problem. My doc discovered that it was due to the milk i had - i used to have 5-6 glasses in a day!! I changed it to 2 glasses and started having chaach/buttermilk which helped

- i wd have ajwain/ginger the day i ate something heavier.

so check ur diet, note it down, and see if this helps

RE:Adult breast feeding
I was not breastfeed in my childhood hence the idea of sucking and feeding from a woman's full, engorged breasts has infatuated me. It is a fantasy that drives me wild like nothing else, just the thought of laying my head in a woman's lap while she brings her swollen nipples to my mouth. Ideally, I'd like to finally explore this with the right female. If you are in or near... - Sanjayhyd [View Message]
