My doc said that there is no way to determine if somebody's pelvic canal is narrow unless they r in labor... Ask this question addressing to Archie.

I don't know if ur doc. is true or she just want to do c-sec. It also depends on how big ur baby is... less weight, easy delivery & chances of normal delivary is high. How big is ur baby?

lsns.

Dear Reshma,
I am with ISNS, Pelvis is something one can not estimate before full dilation or knowing that the prolonged labor is due to baby not able to drop in small pelvis. I am not sure if there is any possible way to know in advance, I mean I don't think that's possible at this stage.
Also it's important to continue extruding trust in your Dr. as it may happen that in next visit she would say your pelvis is OK.

C-sections could be because of many reasons, referring to emergency C-section.
One of them is CPD -Cephalo Pelvis Disproportion, what this means is when fully dilated baby is not able to pass through the birth canal and is primarily due to small pelvis. This can happen for two reasons:
baby is really big to pass through pelvis (for a normal size pelvis big babies are delivered by C-section). Or
mother to be have really small pelvis and she would have to undergo C-section even in subsequent pregnancies.

I hope I have been able to clarify the point.

Archie

Hi Reshma,

I understand your situation and please do not worry about it and strain your mind and body.

I remember that Bhramara from July board and Madhulika from August board had C-Section due to narrow pelvis and their babies were also quite heavy. You could speak to them for any clarifications.

Regards,
Vaidehi

dear reshma,
women need to have what is called a favourable pelvis to facilitate a normal vaginal delivery.there are 4 types of pelvis(based on several measurements like the pelvic inlet, outlet diameters etc,.)ur doc must have determined these approx during the internal.it can cause dystocia (difficulty in labour) and prolonged labour so often docs prefer doing a c/s.
dont worry i am sure ur doc will probably do another int in the 37/38 week and discuss the options with u.its better to discuss with her any concerns u may have.take care
