Hi
I went to the doc on 8th n told her tht i had felt water like discharge the prev. night n she did n internal to check if everything was ok. she said tht the baby's head has nt started setting, the opening was stil closed and my waters must not have broken else I wudve had constant flow/trickle (which did not happen again after that night) however, after that day, i have been experiencing periodic pains in the lower back, lower abdomen and pubic area and also keep feeling tightening around lower abdomen( all this at irregular intervals).the pain doesnt subside with change in position.i asked how labour pains wud feel like and my doc said, U wud come to know and she said that the gap between two contractions keeps decreasing if it is real labour and the pain keeps increasing.

Are these false contractions?? I read on a site that these kind of contractions are followed by the real contractions or a \";show\"; within a fortnight. Is it true? How does a real labour pain feel like? Please Help.

Dear Rashmi,
You are facing BHC. They can be there anytime from week 20 till delivery. There is not really a strict timing when it will end in real labor.
Real labor is more painful and contractions will get closer (each time contraction timings will reduce or remain same -referring to gap between two contractions). Contraction intensity increases and pain also increases as you go through it for about 1-4 hours. BHC do not stay for hours they will maximum bother ofr 2 hours and they can show up again after some hours on the same day, this is false labor. Real labor contractions once started will not stop untile delivery takes place.

BHC help dilating and effacing the cervix, you can be happy than worried that your body is preparing for big day on time.

I am little concerned about lower back pain, if that does not stop after bed rest ask your Dr. to take fetal Fibronectin, nontheless you are finished 36 weeks and baby is fully mature if delivery takes place anytime.

Good luck
Archie

Dear Rashmi,
Lower back pain before week 36 is a sign of Preterm labor if that does not subside even after bedrest and bother throughout the day.

fetal fibronectin is a test that determine preterm labor. The test detect labor that's in queue for 14 days ahead of time. Your Dr. would do this test if you are about or before Week 34 and worried about Preterm labor.
