Hey! How are you all? I was so tired and couldn't log in. I have registered for lamaze classes on Aug. Have you guys registered for lamaze classes yet? Do you feel the baby movement all the time? I was getting it more when i was in 12-18 weeks but nowadays i don't feel it much. Hope this is normal.

Padmaja, Everything will work out fine. Don't worry about it. I am going to the doctor next week. I am not sure if she is going to examine me for GD because i will be only in 22nd week. I am also worrying about my sweet craving though. Have you picked up the baby's name yet? We haven't find out the baby's sex so i have to look at both boys/girls name..lol.

Take Care you all!

Hope you guys had a great weekend, it rained heavily here and we stayed indoors mostly except for going to temple yesterday.
The good news from my side is my mom got her visa and would be coming by Aug, I really hoped my dad could join too but as my bro is in London presently and my parents are constructing another floor he needs to be around, disappointing.
Another interesting thing, yesterday we went to the temple and my baby was pretty active when the priest was doing arti, it was cool.
Mekha, if you are not showing weight anywhere except your stmoach and your OBGYN is not worried, don't worry yourself. Weight gain is pretty common, we can't go by the book especially for we Indians as we eat rice/roti more than Americans, so cool off. You will have growth spruts during 2nd and third trimisters where the weight gain is not yours but your the little one's.Some times it could be water gain which goes away after few days.If you are worried about your sweet intake, cut down on it slowly, I can imagine devon street having loads of sweet bhandars though, just like Oaktree road here!!!!
As for exercise, I walk everyday after I finish with dinner, since I have seasonal allergies, we to go to the mall in the evenings where I walk a little and do little window shopping at times !
Sakhi, is not it fun to see the kicks? Movements make all the pregnancy discomforts worthwhile!
Jyotsna, how are you doing? Did you go for ultrasound and talked about GD testing? I will let you know my results in a day or so, keeping my hopes up !

Belly rubs folks!

Padmaja, nice to hear that your GD test went well. Best wishes for the result. Hope the result will comes up negative. I will definitely let you know how my physical therapy goes.

Sakhi, I am trying to cut down my cravings eventhough its hard to stop eating when i am starving. Incipient of my second trimester i gained 5 pounds in two weeks and my doctor was little concerned about my weight. It was incessant for two more weeks but i guess it somewhat became normal now and not gaining like later. But the funny thing is i don't look like i gained weight except the belly part...lol. My dh wonder the same.

Do you guys exercise now? I was doing hectic exercises before. So that way my body have muscles and doctor says that muscles(abdomen) provide more pain due to the stretching in the abdomen. Thus this pain is really hard to endure and as my doctor suggested i decided to go for the physcial therapy.

Happy weekend to you all!

Hello all,

Good to hear from you all. And Padmaja, nice to know that your test went all right. Waiting for result is real trouble. Keep it cool and -ve result is good but even with +ve result you can control ur GD.
Mekha, I gained 12 pounds in 23 weeks, althought I lost couple of kgs in 3rd and 4th month. Too much weight gain is not good because it may result in low BP. Of course, not all girls have this problem but I suggest, try to cut on sugar.
Jyotsna, ask for GD screening since you are trying for VBAC. Since with GD, the only problem as Padmaja said is, ur baby will be overweight and can not pass thr birth canal. Since you are trying for VBAC, its important you monitor ur sugar so as ur baby is not overweight.

I am scheduled for classes in Aug as well. Now a days I get so much kicks that some time it hurts. Activities become very strong specially after dinner / lunch. Its really a great feeling. If I concentrate I can see my belly moving.

Take care girls....

-Sakhi-

Girls, 3 hour GD testing went off well today, did not throw up !! It was peaceful except for severe hunger pangs !I will know the results by Tuesday.
Jyotsna, gestational diabetes shows up around 24-28 weeks, it results from hormones made by the placenta. These hormones can alter the way insulin works.GD that shows up during pregnancy goes away after the birth.
It is pretty common to check for blood sugar levels during second trimister even in India these dayd.My sis-in-law was checked during her pregnancy not so long ago in B'lore. Ask your OBGYN for the screening. Here in USA they emphasise on this test as majority would want to go for vaginal birth, with GD its imperative that the baby could get big and cannot pass through the birth canal unless they control the diet of the pregnant woman. Enough of the lecture right?!!
Mekha, let me know how your physical therapy goes.If you have gained around 15-18 pounds by 21-22 week that is fine, don't worry about weight gain you can cut down after the birth of the baby.I eat a lot during first trimister too so I could keep the food down !

Post away girls! Belly rubs

Hello Girls,

Thanks for the answers. Padmaja its nice to hear that my sweet craving isn't going to affect much on GD test in anyways. co'z i can't stop eating/ my craving for sweets...lol. Perhaps, thats why i am gaining weight more than
appropriate. My greatest number of pounds piled on in the first trimester.

Jyotsna, I don't know if indian doctors do the GD test or you have to request them to check on blood sugar level. But in u.s doctors do check on blood sugar level in the second trimester.

I have scheduled for the physical therapy next week.

Take care!

hi,
im in my 24th week now and my doc hasnt told me about this GD testing. Is it compulsary for all.I did go thru a routine blood sugar test earlier on in my pregnancy.
Mekha,i too go thru days when i dont feel the little one.In fact being a 2nd time mom i shld be cool about it but i got worried for a while.A good belly rub and yes as padmaja says, sleeping on the left side makes your baby respond. For me,Ananya's singing(my 1st one)gets it to respond immedietly.
Im due october19th and trying for a VBAC,and searching for a good lamaze instructor in Mumbai.Lets see
keep in touch gals.
take care

Good to see you back here posting, I was beginning to wonder about you.Tomorrow I am going back for the three hour GD testing!

Decrease in movement is common on some days, if you get concerned take some orange juice and lie down on your left side, you will see the little one tapping away. Other wise go for a walk and lie down.

GD testing is usually done between 24-28 weeks, they usually give you orange/lime soda to drink before going for the 1 hour test. So most likely your OBGYN might want you to schedule another appointment in few weeks, good luck.

By the way your sugar intake will not influence GD results in anyway. They just want to see if the body is producing enough insulin to regulate the amount of blood sugar. I have become a pro on this subject, ask away any questions if you have !!!!!!

My ultrasound was couple of weeks ago and we opted not to find out the sex of the baby as this baby is our first, want it to be the old fashioned way! Still looking for nice names though !

I have also scheduled for lamaze/childbirth classes in Aug !

Take care
