Due Date Club September 2004:worried/Archie pls answer
2004-09-08
Name: Archana

Hi everyone ,

I have been reading msg from the july/aug boards too. Feels nice to read the experiences of other who have already delivered.

But , i am very worried about the cord getting aroung the baby's neck. Here , in the US they do an ultrasound only once around 18-20 week. Additional ultrasound will be done ONLY if the doc suspects some problems.

I am really scared. As you approach ur due date , the baby's movements start slwoing down since he does not have much space to move about ( i feel my baby's movement have somewhat slowed down ) IS this normal ? My due date is sep 21st . Pls answer.

Is its possible for the doc to determine if the cord is around the baby's neck by just external examination ???? Archie pls let me know .

At times i feel it's good to be deliver in india where the doc do an ultrasound in every trisemester. what do u girls feel?

I am waiting for ur reponses. Pls reply ASAP.

I have my 39th week appt today . will post an update in the evening .

Thanks & all the best
love
Archana .

As Archie said DO NOT WORRY.

And if you are really tensed then you should inisist to your doc for an Ultrasound. I am sure they cannot refuse. Or else ask her to give an assurance that everything is fine with the baby.

My doc refused for a U/S during my 30th week. I was not sure re. the growth of the baby then. So I insisted and asked her to assure me that the baby is growing properly. When she did not have an answer, she finally agreed to do an u/s. I spoke to my insurance people and they agreed too.

Dear Archana,

No need to worry. You are doing great!

Just to tell, I am from small city and my husband from small town in India. My sister-in-laws delivered babies without any ultrasound and all at home, we are talking present Indian medical experience. Not telling stories of mother or mother-in-law. So get out of feelings that Ultrasound is best and mandatory, because it's not at all mandatory. It's good to be done but having not done frequent does not mean there is some problem.

Cord:
I have recently wrote to someone on this board or on October, the cord thing one should not worry. The presence of cord loop at this time or not having the same at this time does not assure that baby will not have any cord trouble during labor. It's happens mainly during labor when fetus is not able to cope up well with labor stress.

Movements:
At this time of gestation you won't feel them many, as long as you feel them in the day you won't need to worry. If you feel movements are not there then have some cold fruit juice and lye on your left side in the bed. You should be able to see baby moving in 15 to 30 minutes and start counts for 2 hours, if baby gives 10 kicks or moves for 10 times within 2 hours then all is well. If baby moves 10 times inless than 2 hours stop counting and feel happy that all is well.

Let us know your internal check up details. If you are worried, place a concern to your Dr. and I beleive she/he will help you getting an ultrasound done to see your baby before birth.
