Sleeping:Sleeping in cradle

my 3.5 months old son is always sleeping in his cradle only(not cloth one, normal crib type). We are trying hard to make him sleep with us in bed. this cradle is small and so he cant sleep in this for more than 2 months now. How to change his habit and make him sleep in bed? he wants the jerk and the moving air in the cradle to sleep. pls help.

I would say it is a nice situation for you. Can you get/borrow a rocking chair? You can rock him in that. After he sleeps you can put him in a bigger cradle or baby cot which is placed close to your bed.

I have some friends whose kids are 6 or 7 and still sleeping with parents. My friends wake up daily with a backache because the child moves a lot in the bed!

It will be a lot of work for you to rock him and then put him down. But very worth it in the long run. Once my son turned one I did not rock him. I just pat him to sleep. I lost sleep for several months, but it has paid off very well. My son could go to sleep by himself by 18 months. I didn't need to pat him. I would read a book and turn off the light. he would go to sleep by himself.

Good luck, Smom

Just try to rock him in your amrs, and once he dozes off, lay him in the cot and put pillows on either side. It would give the coziness of his cradle. I think, it only a practice. So keep doing this and eventually he will get to sleep in the bed. Probably, you will have to take little extra effort till he learns to sleep on the cot. My son goes off to sleep in the cradle and at 3.30 am shifts with me on the bed.

On the other hand, its best that he sleeps alone in a cradle. That way, you are grooming him to be independent. Instead of making him sleep with you, see wether you can get a bigger cradle. Goodluck.

My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
