Kids & Food:My child does not like to eat
2003-07-28
Name: Micky Satpathy

My son is 2&1/2 yrs old and he does not like to eat except for maybe noodles and chips and stuff like that so i have to tie him to his booster seat and force him to eat everytime by showing him some cartoon. What should I do and how much milk does a kid of his age require in a day.

Hi Micky,

My daughter is almost passing that phase...she's going to be 3 in Oct. She's realising what hunger is now....though I do not have much to be happy about as I still have to read to her or turn on the TV to feed her....but it's getting better. Once I read on internet that though junk foods, in your case chips, should be kept away from kids....but should not be totally shunned. It was said that if your kid wants chips...don't give little...give him as much as he wants but also offer him the healthier options. Of Course, you should not do this often...may be once or twice a month. I have put up a cheesy noodles recipe that my daughter likes....it is very nutritious as it has veggies and cheese and fat. Regarding milk....atleast 2 glasses of milk per day is recommended as the toddlers need their calcium for strengthening their bones.
Just be patient(believe me I know how hard it is to be patient when they're not eating)...
Take care
A

Hi Mickey, I have a 2 1/2 year old, who is also a very picky eater. He is okay if I prepare different food everyday, which I try to do sometimes. For lunch, I give him the regular rice and dal with ghee and cooked vegetable pieces. He is good with vegetables, but does not like the rice/dal combination much. For dinner, I make currys with different vegetables everyday. I cook them just the way I do it for us, except the red chilli powder. I put little bit of garam masala, turmeric powder and dhaniya powder along with onion seasoning. He likes most of the curries. I give him mixed grated fresh beet, zuchhini and carrot. He loves them too. If your toddler likes noodles, add bolied vegetables to it, so that way he will get one of his vegetable servings.
You can do a quick seasoning of fine cut onion, pinch of mustard seeds and green peas (use olive oil). After peas get cooked, let it cool for 5 mins, add cooked rice. My son loves this as it is not mushy.
Let me know if you have any luck. Hang in there, this too shall pass!

RE:The Parents Guide to Healthy Snacking
So my sister’s child is a very fussy eater. She generally makes veggie cheese rolls or sandwiches to get her to eat her vegetables. She tries to use colourful and pretty veggies to get her to eat. Giving smoothies, fruit salads and milkshakes is another appetizing and attractive method. In fact she even decided to supplement her diet with Immuno Boosters and Brain Booste... - say [View Message]

hello pooja,
for your kids you can make heavy breakfast like you can blend apple with oats or any other fruits with oats, and make heavy breakfast, there is no need of egg after this breakfast for anyone,.... - rohini [View Message]
