Yesterday went to hear the heartbeat as i am only 9 weeks pregnant it was hard to capture the babys heartrate constantly as the baby moved under the pelvic bone- i am going for a nuchal translucency test on maybe 12-13th week. Archie i am glad this test is offered to me with my son i had a diff gynes this test was not offered and i had a positive afp the worst time through pregnancy. but i am happy if i have positive afp this time i have this test more accuarte then afp to fall back on. gynec has told us not to tell family freinds as of yet until we see the heart beat until this test. i have told employee and few close rellies thats all.I have no nausea this pregnancy- i have redad that 50% of women out of 100 who have nausea have a girl baby-i am wishing for a girl alothough i will be eqully happy for a boy. i think high eastrogen in the body causes nausea which the female fetus produces but even this data adds up to a 50:50 ratio i suppose you cannot predict these this ultrasound is the only way

Hi Priya,

Don't worry....I am also 9 weeks and my doc found the heartbeat cuz she did an US...I remember in my last pregnancy, my gynec (diff doc) couldn't find heartbeat with doppler and she waited 2 more weeks and then found the heartbeat so don't worry.

I also went for AFP last time as Nuchal wasn't available at that time and luckily it came negative...AFP comes false positive lots of time so don't worry.

Good luck for your next test.

Priya,
Nausea in fact it not that related to estrogen rather linked to progesterone and this hormone is neutral with ref to babys sex. I don't really thing nausea is a way to determine babys sex. Enjoy the game until levelII ultrasound or may be until childbirth.

your uterus is expanding and that fetus is tiny like peanut size. it has a lot of space and experiencing movements besides heartbeat. So I am not surprised to see that fetal heart rate with doppler was not easy in 9th week, rather I don't even recommend abdominal usage of fetal doppler at this stage. Mainly because there is possibility of not finding heart rate or baby moving and posing trouble, which in some primapara patient can lead to stress and concern although it's normal. If heart rate then it would be transvaginal probe.
From the beginning of second trimester you should be able to pick up fetal heart without trouble using fetal dopplers on abdomen.

nuchal is a bliss, I don't think it's to do with your previous OB, just that many Drs. started to offer from mid of 2005, you already had Dylan that time.

Wish you good luck for upcomming test.

Archie
