Hi Archie,

THis is Neetu as u know about my itching, it is not chloastasis but it is pupps which is all over body, even palms so my doc prescribed me methylprednisolone and I started taking it by noon, but then in evening one of my husband's friend told me that i shld not take this medicine, and she also told us that now I shld not discontinue it as i have started I shld follow whole one week course.

I am very very scared, that how will it effect my baby, In fact I asked my doc before leaving ofice that will it hurt baby he said(not my regular doc, he was on call doc filling in for my gyno)No it won't hurt the baby, but now I am very very tensed.

Can you please suggest something,
THanks
Neetu

Subject:  methylprednisolone during pregnancy

Dear Neetu,

There are list of drugs those are safe while pregnancy, absolutely unsafe and some are suggested to be used with caution. The methylprednisolone happens to be in third category. It depends on your case. However the methylprednisolone drug is contraindicated in the first trimester and I would be more worried for the patient treated with methylprednisolone in their first trimester. YOu are in third trimester and most likely you are fine.
Do you have an idea about the baby gender?

The drug is likely to give you relief. I believe since the medication is not prescribed by your routine OB you would want to give a call if the treatment does not make help to your condition and or bring this point in your next visit, which I guess is in one week.

Looks you should be fine if your pregnancy has been touchwood so far and this is the only concern. I would however warn you to curtail on Salt intake, and if you get leg cramps then eat banana once a two days or drink Gatorade orange juice or some juice from Gatorade brand (exist in grocery), this is in case you notice leg cramps and notice fluid retention, which is likely due to the medication. But if you don't face these symptoms above then you don't have to worry for anything.

Dear Neetu,
Yes, with a little fraction some minor risks with expecting boy. Good news it's absolutely OK for expecting girl.
But as said earlier, this is something used with caution and your Dr. will make decision. If you say all has been well then trust me it's going to be fine with you and little one.
