Hi

My hospital doesn't provide Lamaze Childbirth classes, but their own Childbirth classes, which I think should be very much similar. Do you think there is any major difference between the two?
One more Question -
The session which is available to join now is ending on oct22nd, and I am due on oct 31st. I am thinking it will be too late then. Please suggest me whether to go for it or not?

Hi Manisha,

I heard of two types of childbirth classes. Here they are.

Bradley Method: Natural childbirth indicates childbirth without the presence of drugs or other artificial means of controlling labor. This method of childbirth emphasizes the role of the labor coach, traditionally the husband and father-to-be.

Lamaze Method: This method of childbirth focuses on preparedness for childbirth through practice of varying breathing techniques for the different stages of labor. There is also an emphasis on relaxation and partner involvement with this method.

Child birth classes which are given in hospital might be different from these two or they might be giving one of the above. Hospital where I am going to deliver, they are providing lamaze classes. You can check with your hospital and find out what kind of child birth classes they provide. I believe whatever they give, that should be useful.

My Hospital & DOc suggested to take these classes 6 weeks prior to due date. They have weekly once class till four weeks (2 hours each wednesday evening) or one saturday class. So, I booked one day class in the begenning of september.

As you are saying the available classes end on Oct 22nd, you might want to find other class which you can take some time in september and practice at home during october. Because once we enter in 9th month, we might deliver at any time. So, check if you can find one.

Hope this helps!

Anu.

Hi Ritu,

You can go to www(.)lamaze(.)org or call the 1-800-368-4404. They will locate a class near your place. You can also check with your hospital where you will be delivering and can schedule a class. I went into my hospital internet site and got the information for Child birth classes.
