Hi,
I have 3 months old baby gal. She has just gained one lb in a month. She was only on breastmilk and I feel it may be less for her.I also feel my breast is not full for every feeding of hers(2.5hrs). Doc asked me to supplemet formula.Am worried bcoz I thought I cld feed her for 6 months atleast.Pls advice. Am broken heart now.
How much shd she gain every month ? She also doesnot sleep after every feed.Her sleeping hrs are very less say 8 hrs a day(including all cat naps)
Any advice is appreciated,

Casper replied. Using a breast pump would help increasing your milk supply. If you think your supply is less in the evenings, you could feed your baby and supplement it with a formula so that she doesn;t go hungry. As you continue pumping, your supply would increase and you may not have to use any formula. As already posted, methi seeds in your diet would help boost milk supply.

This is how I did it during the first few weeks for my baby and have been successful at breastfeeding exclusively for almost 10 months now.

Sonal replied. hey, dont sweat. reva is 3 months & once she gained just 6oz in 22 days & her doc wasnt worried....babies shd gain half to one oz every day or around 4 oz every week...that ways it seems good enuf that ur baby gained a pound in a month...i mean its nothing abnormal...as long as she is active & peeing well, shes great....moeover it depends a lot on how u & ur husband were as babies...its genetics...so, relax Jiya replied. I agree with Nandita..You may want to pump your milk and know your milk supply.

You can increase your milk supply by drinking lots of fluids.

You may even try taking some fenugreek in your diet. Try making fenugreek(mendhiyam/methi) ladoo.
Eat it first in the morning for 3-4 weeks. It helped me a lot.
Some babies gain their weight all of the sudden..not radomly.

Check out your milk supply by pumpimg.If you feel it's less , talk to your Doc about Reglan. This little pill worked for me dramatically.
I'll suggest you to pump your milk, breast feed your baby & try to increase your supply , else try reglan. If nothing works, formula is always there. Just make sure that the little pumpkin should not lose weight while you experiment on yourself.
