Yesterday i went to the doctor for my monthly check up.She said that the baby is fine.
The doctor said that i have put lot of weight this month:-(.i was 154pounds last month and this month iam 165 :-(.I don't know how i gained this much weight in few days(i have a doubt whether the scale reading was wrong).I must put only 4 pounds per month. But i have gained 11 pounds(I ate lots of sweets as we had some function in our house).
So she asked me not to drink orange juice any more as it may have added sugar.Instead to take an orange fruit. She also asked me to take zero fat milk and butter milk.
she has asked me to completely avoid rice and instead to take only chapathi(she is an indian doctor). That too 1 or 2 chapathi with some curry.
Iam very confused about this.Is it good to avoid rice entirely and take only chapathies?.Will it affect my baby's growth?.What should i eat?.Should i diet at this period to loose weight?.(As the doctor had to go for a delivery urgently she did'nt have much time to talk with me.otherwise i would have asked many ques).Iam very much worried.I did'nt even have dinner yesterday night.Just had 1 plum fruit.please some one give ideas what i must do.waiting for it....

Manisha replied. Wish I could get some weight from all of you, and we all could be saved from these weight problems.
I always eat chapatis or stuffed parathas. i don't like rice at all.
Actually its long time we shared any recipes, sometimes i suddenly feel terribly hungry. Can you suggest me something quick other than fruits?
Do you always keep something ready to eat? I need some ideas here.
Thanks
Manisha
Bargavi replied. Hi Kals
I too went thro all this last month. But my doc is ok since its twins.
I spoke to my other frend she told to eat only rotis and Dalia(Broken Wheat Rice). NO SWEETS whatsoever. I used to have icecream now i stopped.
Also not much oil in ur cooking. Then lots of veggies and dal, and fruits and more imp lot of protein like skim milk and yogurt and buttermilk.
And yes walk for 30-45 min at night.
Good Luck

Radhika replied. First of all don't get tensed..and please do not diet..that is bad for the baby and you, u will feel weak too..eating only chappatis is not a problem,u have to just choose the food u eat carefully. IF u are in the 6-7th month period, this is the month the pancreas are getting dev. and check for insulin in baby. so reduce ur sweet intake. Start with good breakfast - oatmeal/bran/juice/milk...u can have fat free milk/1/2% milk...because u need the calcium in milk, fat should be taken but in measured quantity. Have fruits, orange juice does contain a lot of sugar and less of juice some brands, check labels when u buy products, have veg. soups, dal,rajma,pulses-lentil, vegetables, salads. Avoid cakes, sweet items, maida items, fried items..if u like rice, try to eat in between one small bowl one meal or maybe if u can twice a week, need not completely avoid it..and exercise, walking helps a lot if u walk for 30 mins early morning or evening slowly or at convenient pace no need of exerting urself. Adding weight varies month to month and person to person, now is not the time to diet...exercise will help u now and later during delivery..provided u have had everything normal till now in pregnancy. DO consult the doctor before u start exercising in any way.
Take care. Keep smiling..

sumana replied. hai kals,
I was sailing in the same boat in my 5th month. I gained 12lbs in one month. So the doc asked me to cut down on carbhohydrates and sweets. Then for the whole mth I eat only chapathis and dosas, with currys obviously, completely avoided rice and sweets.
This is certainly not deiting.Whenever ur feeling hungry u eat, but just see to it that ur avoiding unnecessary calories(like rice which has only carbhohydrates). While chapathis has both protein and carbhohydrates.Even breads avoid white bread instead try wheat bread or nine grain bread etc.And in orange juices u have extra pulp without sugar , so u can try those. And keep in mind that u shld not skip ur dinner or lunch for that matter.Try to do more walking and eat healthy.
Now my wt gain has come under control, though increasing at the rate required. And i have started eating rice once or twice a week.
Hope this helps.Dont get dejected by this.
take care,
sumana
