Hair Care:Brother's upanayanam advice
2016-01-20
Name: Meenakshi

Hi All,
I have a brother who is eighteen years old and are planning to do his ceremony (upanayanam) later this year. Our mother has already told him to not cut his hair. How do I convince him of oiling his hair daily. My mother has given me the responsibility of oiling and maintaining his hair and try to make him wear clip on earring until his ears get pierced. He doesn't listen to me. Our maid suggested we should forcefully oil his hair heavily. Any advice would be of great help . My mother is away for 2 weeks, and when she gets back expects him with oiled hair and earrings, also if possible in women's clothing too. Thanks
Meenakshi

Maid has asked you to do it forcefully. I have a better idea.... Ask your maid to tie up his hand and legs now you can easily apply the oil. If you dont waana apply it forcefully then just throw the oil at your brothers face. You can see the result by your self

Oi, if you wana see your mom happy then do as I say. Make a cup of Tea add 2 sleeping pills in it and serve it to your brother. He fall asleep now you can easily carry on with your work of applying and all.

Hi, you can take the handful of oil and apply directly on his head. Whats the big deal, you can start doing it right away. While he's sleeping you can apply the oil without any obstacle and without getting noticed by anyone.

Hi Meenakshi, do not worry you just have to put a drop of oil in his hair so just try to some how convince him. Good that your mother has allowed him from headshave so tell him to stay happy.

I had my upanayanam function when i was 20 years and since it involves head shave i had to wait till the end of my semester before the long vacation because i did not want to attend my college without any hair.

My brother had done the same tantrums when we were going to have his function and it was very difficult to convince him to do anything so we got fed up and started talking about cancelling it but then he came on line.

Make a deal with your brother that if he wants he can avoid oiling his hair daily and can only oil them on alternate days and also wear earring only when he is home but once your mother comes back he will have to do everything.

Hi,
You should start with mild oiling for your brother, for just the tip of his hair and gradually proceed down to oiling his scalp.
Another issue would be oily hair, which is heavy, falling on his face and irritating him. So before oiling, part his hair neatly in the middle with a comb (use the tip of his nose as the reference while parting his hair, for a perfect middle part). Comb his hair, so that the middle part is till the back of his head. So you have two equal portions of his hair. First, deeply oil any half and tightly pull the entire portion of the hair and put a rubber band. Similarly put another tight pig tail for the other half of his head. Thus he will be comfortable with his oiled hair and as a bonus he will look adorable.
When his hair becomes long, you should braid his hair. Also, how long do you want his hair to be, before the ceremony ?
Also instead of clipon earrings, you could pierce his ears and make him wear proper earrings. During the ceremony, he can be pierced again.

Hi ,
Thanks for posting. I really like your idea of oiling and styling. I would like to have his hair up to waist length and oil it heavily daily and decorate it flowers and hair accessories. What do you think ? Please give more suggestion. My mother did say we can have his ears pierced before ceremony, I want his nose pierced too. The maid oils his hair only on weekends. When I can braid his hair, love to put gajras on it. Thanks

oiling and earrings are fine but why is in women's clothing? it is not necessary for him to wear women's cloths. bring oil which is non sticky and don't put it in large amount first slowly he will get the habit. and every day small amount of oil make his hair oily till two weeks.

Hi kaya
Thanks for advice, we did oil his hair lightly with scented oil so he did not mind. My mother's idea is to use coconut oil and have heavily oiled hair. Also try earing, mother said to have try on dresses so he is comfortable with ceremony. I am trying clip on earrings for now. Please do give any suggestions.

Texturizing spray for thin hair
Hello everyone,
I have medium volume hair but my hair type is very thin and silky. Due to which my hair doesn't hold curls for long hours. I have heard that texturizing spray helps to solve the above problem. Could someone please suggest the good texturizing spray for thin hair?... - Amulya Peru [View Message]
