Due Date Club November 2003:What to buy lists anyone ?
2003-08-18
Name: Ritu .
Hey, I was wondering if anyone has compiled a \";what to buy list for the baby \"; or attended any such sessions. My what to buy session is scheduled next month and I am getting very impatient. Also I do not want to buy things randomly on impulse and be left with things that might never get used (the way it happens to me sometimes) , so I haven't bought anything at all. I will let everyone know what I learn after my session. Meanwhile if anyone has any sort of list it will be a big help (inc. sizes to buy , qty. etc.) as I really want to start some shopping. I will also call the hospital today and see if they can book me in this month's session.
Please let me know. It will be great if we can all with our inputs compile such a list. What do you feel ?
Take Care everyone.
Cheers,
Ritu

Thanks Vindhya, I will try to enjoy it. However, I am an alcoholic so I am already feeling kinda low about me not having anything to do.
I am so tempted to tell my boss that I will work till October, but I think I need to really really think about it before I do so....
All of us mommies-to-be deserve a nice long break, so when do you get to take off from work and get some rest and relaxation???????

Name: Avi Subject: a long break
Hey, I've had a really hectic year so far (actually 2 years with a month off between each year). I've been at school full time(20 units) and worked 40 hrs/week and I didn't get anytime off since I became aware of my condition of gestation (condition of gestation sounded cool so I had to put it in there :)).
I had to go to school even this summer and just got done last week.
Gosh, it's been like sleep at 1 am every morning and wake up at 4:30 or sooner. I actually never would sleep, just take naps whenever I can until the end of last week.
So, I've decided to take off early and just spend a month or two relaxing and doing nothing much else....I dont want to have any kind of a stress for 2 months cause all I've done for the past few years is get stressed out with work and school..........
I think my baby deserves the rest more than me.
So yeah, I will be off from Sep 15th....yipeeeee :)
another long response.....I am really chatty today.

Name: Vindhya Subject: Pediatrician & hospital tour
Hi Avi,
At the health center where I go to visit my doctor, there are some pediatricians as well. So, I am planning to continue at the same place. Need to find out who would be best.
I would suggest you to call and find out their history and background. May be visit them before choosing.
I am planning to take the hospital tour during the second week of next month.
I am curious as to why you are taking off from September itself.

Hey Vindhya, I was told that the results will be back in a couple of days so I was planning to call them on Thursday and see if they have something for me.
The dizziness was kinda wierd, I had very little morning sickness (a little nausea) for a month or so. I was lucky cause my cousin who is also pregnant and in her 25th week still suffers from it. Poor thing...
I've been going to Kaiser Permenante in Richmond for my monthly visits but my delivery will be in Alta BAtes - Berkeley. I heard that Summit was pretty good too. Are you planning to take a tour of the hospital (actually since you are already familiar with the hospital, you might take a tour of the delivery/pedeatric area)
I was planning to take a hospital tour at the end of this month.I also have to check into how we can go about choosing a peadiatrician (wrong spelling)..Any input????
Hilltop mall is much better now than it was a few years back but it still sucks compared to the Sun valley mall and the Solano mall. Southland and Hilltop must be on the same level when it comes to quality and the ambience. Hilltop has been getting more and more ghetto lately.
Bay street in Oakland, however, looks so good now. I was impressed by the stores and the whole atmosphere there. You should visit if you are anywhere near.
I will be off of work from the middle of September and I know I will go crazy without having anything to do, so I've decided not to do any baby shopping till then.
I also have to go to the birth prep classes from the first week of sep till the end of the month and to Infant care classes after that. Hopefully, it wont get too hectic...
I sure do write a lot....... :)

Name: Vindhya Subject: GTT results - they wouldn't call if normal
Avi,
I forgot to answer your question on when I would be getting the results. The lab technician said they wouldn't call if everything is fine, otherwise they would within three days. I'll wait for the call until Friday and then call them on Monday. Though my AFP results were not normal, they never called back. So, I don't really trust them.
When are you getting your results?

Hi Avi,
I live in Alameda. I hardly go to Oakland, except to see the doctor. The baby will be delivered at Summit Hospital in Oakland. How about you, in which hospital will your delivery be.
Sorry to hear about the dizziness after drinking the soda. Did you have morning sickness before?
I've heard that Hilltop mall is pretty good. Have you started shopping for the baby?

Name: Avi Subject: good idea
Hey Vindhya, compiling a list of things to buy and having in our briefcase as a file would be great idea.
It would be very helpful when we start shopping for the little ones..
My glucose test went fine yesterday. I had to drink an extremely sweet orange soda and I felt kind dizzy afterward - cause I am not used to that degree of sweetness I guess. When r u getting ur results back???????
Drinking lots of water and sleeping with my feet up on pillows was uncomfortable as hell, but I sure was glad to see my ankle bones... :)
I went to the one at Hilltop mall, which is close by to where I live and yeah like you said, they did have some cute tops and they are not as expensive as their sister store-pea in the pod. Their smallest pants were too big for me though so I will try out other stores this weekend......A little more than 2 whole months and we are done (hopefully) for a while atleast :)
YOu live in Oakland right???? If so, u must have been to the stores on Bay Street. Man, Oakland sure has changed since Jerry brown became the mayor. I cant believe that there was a time when you didn't want to go anywhere near Oakland after dark...

Hi Avi,
I think we all should compile a list and save it in yahoo briefcase. I can add your list and mine to a file and upload it. Ritu can modify it later.
How was your test yesterday? Mine was the same as the one I took at 18 weeks.
I am glad that the swelling of your feet is gone. Last week, I had some swelling too, but its gone now.
By the way, I had been to Motherhood shop on Saturday. Its a good one. I never knew there was one in Southland Mall in Hayward.
