Thailand lies between 6 degrees North and 20 degrees North in the South East of Asia. Sitting West of Laos and Cambodia and East of the Andam Sea and Burma, Thailand is home to a fairly typical tropical climate in the far south and weather dominated by monsoons in the north.

One great monsoon getaway (near Mumbai and Pune) is Bhimashankar. It is famous as one of the important jyotirlings of Loerd Shiva. But the jungle surrouding these areas is really mysterious and in the rains, the place is full of greenery and waterfalls. Worth a visit!!

Bhimashankar is great. There is a wealth of animal and plant life. But absolutely nothing beats Bhimashankar in the rains. There is a rare florescent fungus that shine in the night and can be soon only in the monsoon months.

I was dragged along on a monsoon hike once. Here are some more additions in praise of the glory of hiking in the monsoons:
Mud, slush, slime, swampy puddles, soggy food, smelly socks, bad falls over slippery rocks, and leeches, leeches, leeches... Arghhh!!
