Speech:Delayed Speech

My child is almost 2 years old and is still not talking. He prefers pointing to things and gesturing to people instaed of opening his mouth and speaking. This delay in speech (and I hope it is simply a delay) is really worrying me and my husband. What do you think we should do?

Dear Sister,
Don't worry. My son is 3 years 5 months old and has very less vocabulary.
All says he will pick up. Don't worry things will happen as the time passes.

My ds is 22 months old and does not speak in sentences or phrases yet. He has a vocabulary of 20-30 words. He points at things. He babbles constantly. At that my dd was fully coherent and spoke clearly in sentences. I am not comparing the two, but could it be that he has speech delay? He has been adding new words every day though. My friends say he is normal and boys talk later than girls. We are bilingual but that was not a problem for his sister. Did anybody have any similar experience or any advise.
Thanks

Hi, Dont worry if ur son is still not talking. My son is 2years 3 months and he has just stared talking few words now, when he was 2 he hardly spoke much. But gradually now i am seeing a sudden change in him.

I have spoken to the doctor and even to friends and many have said that their children also had the same problem and they started speaking once they were 3 years. Just be patient, read lots of books, tell him stories etc he will surely increase his vocab and start speaking soon.

Take care

My friend you really don't need to worry about your child not speaking. I consult to may parents in my subarban county daycare center and you will amazed at how many parents have the same concerns. As long as there is no family history of speech problems, it is more than likely that your son will grow up fine and will not have any speech defects. Some children start talking sooner than others, so it is better not to keep comparing. Afterall, are you even similar to your sister (ask your mother!). Hope you feel better reading this message.

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. My son is less than 4 and has been diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum. He is non-verbal. We are taking him for OT and ABA/speech therapy.

Meanwhile, I read about an Ayurvedic hospital called Kerala Samajam hospital in Shoranur. Has anyone gone there for treatment? Any reviews?

Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
