What precautions do you take before reaching for a drink? How do you get rid of that pounding headache during a hangover?

Self control is the best or only cure for a hangover. Every drinker knows his own capacity to handle a drink - drinking more than this not only causes a bad hangover the next day, but can also induce an strong intoxication that can knock the person out of his senses or disable his sense of restraint, and make the person do things her or she would never do if they were not under the influence of alcohol.

Taken within this limit, alcohol can be enjoyed as a great stress reliver and appetiser before a good dinner etc. However, when restraint is thrown to the winds and the person indulges himself or herself beyond his or her own threshold limit of toleraqnce for alcohol, that is when the trouble begins. Self restraint is the key to enjoying alcohol or being addicted to it.

How does one avoid social drinking when you are at a party where everyone else is drinking. Especially when they are all peers and colleagues. I try to nurse one drink so that doesn' t do any damage. Any other tips?

I am an occassional drinker. My remedy for a hangover involves sleeping it off. I sleep late and usually wake up refreshed enouhgh and seem to be fine after that. This ofcourse means that I either drink only on the weekend, or stay in at home. Agree that the best cure is to simply stay away from drink (or drink in strict moderation).

Simple my friend, just opt for a juice or a glass of water. Periodically keep taking a gulp or a sip.

And revel in the fact that you wont have to spend a lovely morning the next day nursing a damn headache or other equally desirable symptoms.

Alcohol affects people differently. This is why some people get drunk faster.

i am not much of a drinker, but have occassionally had a few drinks. However, i never suffered from any of the symptoms supposed to be associated with hangovers!

Does one really need to ' get drunk' or knocked out of ones senses to suffer a hangover?

Totally agree. What you just said is what research has shown. There is no way to avoid a hangover when you have had a drink too many. But not drinking is the best solution. Second would be drinking in moderation and drinking plenty of fluids. If you still want to go on a binge drinking session, then keep those pills ready for the morning.
