let us discuss about this. DK replied. BBT (Basal Body Temperature) is most cheapest way to follow one's cycle. Information available on sites and from doctors are based on 28day cycle, which is not that common. My cycle was very irregular and around 35 - 40 days. In this it was difficult to judge Ovulation day, and we found this BBT technique. You just need to take temperature everymorning (without doing any activity - not even stand up) and make a note. After ovulation occurs temperature goes 2 C up and remains at this elevated level till menstruation starts. Thus using this technique one can easily know when ovulation occurs. So, after following this method few times you can predict when ovulation occurs. And the day of ovulation is the day of conception.

Ovulation always occurs 14 days before the menstruation starts. This means if your mentruation starts on 14th then you must have ovulated on 1st. So, if your periods are regular say for example every 30 days and your last period was started on say 21st Feb then your next menstruation must start on next 21st March. And ovulation occurs around 7th March. Thus if you are pregnant in this period your date of concetion would be 7th March.

For this you must know approx. cycle of your period. Calculate your next menustruation period from your last menstruation date. From that date reduce 14days, that will be the date of conception.

Regarding conception, I know exact date of our conception, and it is 23rd March. As we were taking my BBT everyday and from that I know when did I ovulated. :)

What do u mean by month of conception? I guess u mean when the last period was..right? I missed my march periods and thus...came to know i am carrying after urine test.

My due date is in the border of endNov-earlyDec!!! so I belong both to Nov batch and Dec batch! here.

About your doubt SG

Hi SG,

It is absolutely right that ovulation can occur on 16th or 18th or even later day of the cycle. But it is fixed that menstruation starts 14 days after ovulation occured. For example, my periods are not regular they vary from 35 to evn 45 days. In our case it was almost difficult to find exact ovulation day and this BBT method helped us a lot in determining my ovulation day.

Regarding your case SG, you must have ovulated around 8/9 March because if you add 14 days to the ovulation date it comes to 22/23rd March, so that would be your menstruation start date.

So, conclusion is ovulation can occur any day in the cycle but menstruation starts exactly after 14 days from ovulation.

Yes i agree with SG on the fact that ovulation need not occur on the 14th day necessarily. But i guess thats exactly y DK is talking of BBT method thats said to be more reliable. Am i right DK?

One doubt, DK

Hi DK, here u have refered Feb 21st as last period and if a cycle is regular than the next cycle should be march 22/23rdmar right? FEB has 28 days in 2002. I can quote my eg. I had perfect 30 days cycle. AFter Jan 25th,my next cycle was on Feb23(note jan has 31days). Then my next cycle (march) should have got my periods on 24th, but I didn't get! I ovulated somewhere between 8/9th March. According to my Gyny, Ovulation in a woman takes place according to her mind/body/temp/hormone level etc format. Ovulation can take place even on 16th day or even on 18th day! So its not exactly on 14th everyone's will take place though a cycle is regular. Just wanted to share this info. regds
