What is taught in Antenatal Exercise Classes?

Antenatal exercise classes should be joined by pregnant women after consulting a doctor. There are several benefits gained due to the antenatal exercise classes attended during pregnancy. This includes the elimination of some of the risks during pregnancy such as gestational diabetes and high blood pressure. In spite of this, the antenatal exercises help to retain the body shape even after delivering the baby.

Many pregnant women are prone to the risk of prolonged back pain during and even after the delivery. By practicing the prenatal exercises under the supervision of certified trainers, there is a high chance of getting rid of the back pain totally.

Breathing Exercises

One of the most important antenatal exercises taught in the antenatal exercises classes is the breathing exercise. This helps the pregnant women to take complete control over their mood swings and get themselves relaxed. The breathing exercises also help the body of the pregnant women to obtain the maximum amount of oxygen required for the body.

Mild stretching exercises and some of the recommended posture exercises are taught in the antenatal exercises classes during pregnancy. These posture exercises help in increasing the stamina and energy required to overcome the stress and pain in labour. It is always better to avoid the postures that may cause abdominal contractions, which would be dangerous for the baby and the mother.

Pelvic Muscle Antenatal Exercises

One of the important aspects concentrated in the antenatal exercise classes are the pelvic muscle exercises. The pelvic muscle exercises help in easing the stress of labour by preparing the pelvic muscle to create path for normal labour.

Walking

As already known, walking is one of the best exercises to be practiced. This stands good even during pregnancy. It is better to take the advice of the doctor before starting the walking exercise during pregnancy. The walking time may vary between 10 minutes to half an hour during pregnancy. In some cases, the pregnant woman is advised not to walk more than 10 to 15 minutes or even less than this due to certain complications. Generally, walking increases the flexibility of the body during pregnancy. Walking practiced during the final trimester would help in attaining normal delivery as well.

Ankle and Knee Exercises

Simple ankle and knee antenatal exercises taught in the antenatal exercises classes such as rotating the leg and feet in a circular fashion causing slight movements to knee and ankle would definitely help a lot in reducing the oedema that is caused due to the accumulation of waste materials and fluids inside the body. In addition, it is advisable to take lot of water to improve the removal of toxins from the body.

Pregnant women generally experience changes in their body conditions almost every day. The exercises which were suitable before pregnancy may not be suitable now. Some postures which were very easy to be performed during the second trimester may not be possible to attain as days pass on. So, it is better not to strain too much when the postures are not convenient enough to be obtained. It is always good for the pregnant women to take their own decisions of not to go in for certain posture prenatal exercises which are not comfortable to them.

It is always good to learn the antenatal exercises through the antenatal exercises classes under the advice of the doctor in order to avoid serious injuries which may be dangerous to the expectant mother and the child inside the womb. Performing all the day-to-day tasks becomes an exercise by itself. The antenatal exercises classes contribute much more to the positive effects added.
