Q: I am pregnant and have developed stretch marks. How can I get rid of them?
A: Stretch marks are caused due to the stretching of the skin during pregnancy. Experts are divided on this subject. Some say creams and lotions cannot prevent stretch marks while others believe that they do help. Once stretch marks are formed, they are very difficult to get rid of completely. The creams may help to some extent. There are many imported creams available. A local cream that has recently been launched is called Stretchnil. You could try it out. Q: I am 33 weeks pregnant and have recently developed an itching sensation all over my body, especially on the abdomen. It is uncontrollable and I keep scratching myself all over. What should I do? I am afraid that I will develop stretch marks. I am also facing gastric problems.
A: Try taking some vitamin E capsules, and take an antihistaminic which will relieve the itching. The skin on the stomach has to be moisturised with vitamin-E cream during pregnancy to avoid stretch marks, and any scratching on the stomach should be done gently.
