 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have a question: I'm not a kid but I'm an adult who has an OLD scar on her leg for a long time. I bought lemons and use the juice on my scars as suggested. I was wondering how long does that take affect? When will I notice results? Please advise. Thank you!

Laura Lee (Chennai, )

A: The scar will not completely fade with lemon. This would have been more helpful with a new scar. Applying lemon at this stage may not help a lot, but there should be slight lightening over a longer period of time.

Q: I am a wheatish complexioned girl but my the upper side of my feet is very dark.I soka my feet in warm water with salt..also rub my feet with a pumic stone everyday and hygenically keep my feet very clean. Please help me by giving some effective remedies so i can make my feet look better.

Surekha (Chennai, )

A: Your feet are probably dark because of exposure to the sun. Wear closed shoes instead of sandals. Moisturise your feet every night before going to bed, and apply lemon juice daily.

Q: Sorry for asking so many questions but very curious as to whether hair growign on the feet and toes is normal? Because I haven't seen many people with this problem.

Priya (Mumbai, India)

A: Yes, it's very normal. Almost everyone has little tufts of hair on the toes, and also a lot of people have hair on the feet. Sometimes this hair is fine, at other times it is a little thicker.

Q: My knees are dark and it troubles me a lot, I am unable to wear short clothes. Please help me. what do i do??

Nahmah (Mumbai, India)

A: Cut a lemon in half, and scrub your knees with it. Leave the juice on for as long as possible. You could also do this at night and leave the juice on overnight. Also, make sure your knees are well moisturised constantly. Scrub them gently with a pumice stone daily when taking bath to get rid of dead skin. Also, don't kneel on your knees, and treat them with care.

Q: I have really dark elbows and kness. Also they are very pimply which is quite unappealing. How can I treat this?

Nat (LA, USA)

A: Cut a lemon in half, and rub it on your elbows and knees. Leave the lemon juice on. Do this daily, your elbows and knees should lighten. Also, apply Vaseline to these areas regularly, and keep them well moisturised.

Vidula Chopra

Q: Is there any type of removal for the blackness of the elbows and knees?

Carolyn (CA, USA)

A: Cut a lemon in half and rub the lemon into your elbows and knees. Also, keep the area well moisturised. Try applying Aloe Vera Gel to the areas.

Q: My inner thighs are very dark. I used lightning creams but it never worked . Please suggest some remedy to get id of these darkness.

Kalpana (Rajasthan, India)

A: If your inner thighs rub against each other they will be dark, so you may first have to lose weight on your thighs if this is the case. Powder the area well, and don't wear tight jeans, trousers or polyester salwars or churidars. Try applying lemon juice to this area regularly.

Q: Hi, My daughter is 13 years old rite now, and she just had her period. She claims that she's the shortest of her classmates, and she wants to grow taller. What can i do to help her?

Helen (LA, USA)

A: There isn't much your daughter can do to increase her height. However, she can try exercising and stretching. Let her do backbends. Also, she should stand against a wall and stretch herself up to her full height. Some feel that regular pull ups can increase a person's height, so you could place a pull up bar on the door to her room's entrance, and let her practice pull ups daily. If it doesn't help her build height, it will at least help her develop strong bones! Also, make sure she walks tall, and doesn't slouch. It is far better to be a little short and pull yourself up to your full height, than it is to be tall and slouch, so let her know that!

Q: Hey there...just wanted to clear this.. I used to wax before and now i have started using an epilator.. I have noticed these bumps on my hand after 2-3 days of epilation.. It looks like in grown hair to me... Can i get rid of them..? And secondly there are these light brown spots( I think its a result of waxing) near the base of my legs...can i get rid of them?

Jeena (LA, USA)

A: Epilation actually does give you a lot of in-growths. The best thing to do would be to regularly epilate your underarms, and to wax your arms and legs. Scrub your arms, legs and underarms daily, gently with a pumice stone, after applying soap, when taking a shower.

Q: The pink of my nail is become very short cause i had a bad habit of bitting my nail some weeks ago. How can i make my pinkish part of nail grow back again? plz reply as soon as possible

Tamanna (Mumbai, India)

A: First, stop biting your nails. There isn't anyway to change the length of the pink part of your nails. Your best option would be to grow your nails long.

Q: I had heat rash all over my thighs all summer so far. how do i get rid of it?

Brittany (Mumbai, USA)

A: Wear loose clothing, cotton and linen fabrics. Drink plenty of lemon-water without sugar, and drink at least ten to twelve glasses of water in a day. Apply non-scented powder to the area. Applying a calamine lotion should also help.

Q: Hiii.... i like seriously have a problem n dis problem makes me so different frum da other girls no one else shaves their sideburns but me....cud u pls tell me what to do....they look like that of a man and i do not wanna wax them or anything is there another solution...like a product that wud remove hair and make it never cum bak or anythin i swear i m so sad because of my sideburns

Bhavika (Gujarat, India)

A: No, there is no product like that. Stop shaving your sideburns!! Wax them if you want to. I think you should consider going in for laser treatment. That is a permanent method of hair removal, and is ideal to remove hair permanently especially on the face. Please stop shaving.

Q: My daughter is 3yrs old. She has a lot of hair on her back and upper arms. Which is the best way to get rid of this. I tried using oil mixed with turmeric powder. I do not see a difference.

H (Gujarat, USA)

A: Take besan (flour) and a little turmeric powder, and add enough water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste to your daughter's back and arms. When it dries, scrub off with your hands. Do this daily. It will help reduce her body hair. In any case, do not fret about this too much. When your daughter gets older, she will have many options available to her.

Q: I have been waxing since i was 13 years old; but for the past 6 years or so everytime i wax my legs start to itch as the hair starts to grow back. For the first few days after i wax i am fine, it is only when the hair starts to grow that i have a problem. My legs itch and if i wear any outfit that touches my legs when i walk, it seems like the hair being rough gets stuck on the dress and then gets pulled and thus it pinches me and causes me to itch even more. What can i do? I have tried lotion to soften my skin, it doesn't clear the problem. Please help.

Lavina (Mumbai, India)

A: This is very normal. Scrub your legs well with a pumice stone daily, to exfoliate skin and remove pore blockage. You will get less in-growths and your hair will grow back with ease. Also try going for steam baths regularly, and scrub your legs gently with a pumice stone after the steam bath. Continue waxing regularly. Your hair growth will diminish.

Q: Hi, its me again. My feet are half black and half white due to sun exposure. How to make my feet soft and smooth with same colour? Also, pleasea advice me what moisturizer can I apply for my face?

Sreelatha (Mumbai, India)

A: Get a pedicure done at least once in a fortnight. You could go to the parlour or do it yourself at home. See our beauty section for a step-to-step guide. A pedicure, and regularly moisturising your feet will make a world of difference to them. Circulation will improve, they will get soft and the skin will not crack. Change your footwear everyday so you don't get a permanent tan, and wear covered footwear as far as possible. Also, make sure you apply sunscreen to your feet.

Q: Hi my problem is that my hands makes me look like i'm 10 years older. I'm crazy about cleanliness and my hands are constantly under water and cleaning sprays, what should i do?

Kalpa (Mumbai, India)

A: Stop soaping your hair so much! Soaps and detergents dry out the skin completely. Apply soap only when you must, otherwise just wash hands with water and wipe dry. Overuse of disinfectants also make germs develop new strains, immune to the disinfectants - and your immunity will reduce. So, use of disinfectants and disinfectant soaps should be avoided. Only use them if you are unwell. Keep a hand/body moisturising lotion next to the soap, and use it after washing your hands. Similarly, if you wash dishes, keep a lotion in the kitchen, so you can apply it immediately after washing dishes. It would be best to wear gloves while doing household chores.

Q: What can I do to lighten my dark elbows and knees?

Rita (Mumbai, India)

A: Cut a lemon in half, and apply the juice to your elbows and knees. Keep scrubbing your elbows with the lemon for at least five minutes. Do this daily. Make sure you apply cream to these areas as the darkness is often caused due to dryness.

Q: I have heard of permanent hair remover and I'm really interested in trying it. I have facial hair and I want to remove it permanently. Firstly, I want to know you permanent hair removal means remove hair permanently or hair come back after sometime? Please clear me this point and suggest me the best way.

Sanjeev (Mumbai, India)

A: Permanent hair removal by means of laser or electrolysis means hair gets removed forever and never grows back. Laser is a very good option. It takes a few sittings though, as hair does grow back a few times, and then again laser is given to those few hairs that have grown back. Finally, they disappear forever. Electrolysis takes a longer time, and many more sittings, but it is less expensive than laser therapy. Go to a reputed clinic, and make sure you know people who have gone to that clinic and they recommend it. You don't want permanent scarring!

Q: Dear all regards, I have a daughter 3 years old. She has growth of hair on hand and waist. We are planning to get her permannent hair removal. Kindly suggest the best option considering her age. Reddy

Vinta (Mumbia, India)

A: There is absolutely no need to get anything done at this age. She is only 3 years old! All girls start waxing when they enter their teens, or when they are 11 or 12 years old. Don't get into these things now. When she is in her late teens she can consider options for permanent hair removal. There is a time for everything.

Q: Hi my hands have become suntanned, Can u please tell me what should I do to bring back my original color. Thanks

Shanthala (Mumbai, )

A: They will go back to their natural colour gradually. Apply sunscreen everyday. Waxing helps reduce the tan, so the next time you wax, you should notice a lightening of the skin. Apply cream every night, and wear full sleeves during the day. (Cotton, if it is hot).

Q: Question related to my feet, there are 2 hard circles of a small bindi size on my left feet. it is painful also while walking. no other problem. Please advice what is it and the remedy. Please help.

Shauryaa (Mumbai, India)

A: What you have is probably a corn. This is the first sign that your shoes are uncomfortable, not suitable or they do not fit well. Get comfortable shoes. If you do a lot of walking in a day, wear keds with socks. Soak your feet in warm water for around five minutes every day, and rub them, paying special attention to the corns, gently, for another five minutes. Finish off by applying moisturising cream on your feet.
