Due Date Club July 2008:cervical incompetence

hello everyone,
I am 23 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with cervical incompetence, my cervix has started to open. My doc has put me on bed-rest. I don' t know how long bed rest can keep the baby in my womb....I m very very afraid of delivering a premature baby. I don' t want to have a pre-mature baby as there are long term risk factors, I don' t want to bring the baby into this world with complications, rather not have one.....don' t know what should I do, should I terminate the pregnancy or hang in there. For a healthy baby, I need to push my pregnancy till 36 weeks, don' t know if its feasable. I am emotionally torned, I had sort of built relation with my unborn, I was eagerly looking forward and now things have gone bad. Does anyone knows of any success stories to motivate me. I live in US with my husband and have no family to support. I can' t discuss this with my mom as she is India and don' t want to scare her..... please suggest me something...
Thanks
Ishi

hi ishi. dont think of terminating and things like that. u need to take plenty of rest thats all. i have seen cases like this in my home itself. if the opening is very bad the doc will stitch it up. and see if u could bring in someone for support from india. it will make things better.

Hi, its in a way good for you that your doctor found out this now....they usually perform cerclage, which is a kind of stitch around your cervix to keep it tight.....and they will remove the stitch after 36 weeks....May be yours is minor and they ahve put u in bedrest to check the reaction..our prayers for your healthy pregnancy and delivery....

Hey Ishi,

Am sure you are worried but all I can say is relax and wait patiently to see what happens...

Am from the August 2008 club... Was just reading messages in all the clubs and found your message...

I know of a girl in US who delivered in her 26th week and her boy was in the neonatal care for almost 2 months before he was brought home... He is doing perfectly alright now... You just have to relax and somehow pray that your cervix doesn' t dilate more till at least 26 weeks... Stay in bed as much as possible... If possible also put your legs on a few pillows stacked up together... That should keep the uterus from pushing down further... Hope this helps...

Take good care of yourself... Am in Chicago, where are you?

Hi Vini,
thanks for sharing your friends experience with me, it gives some hope. I am completely on bed rest , just get up to eat food and use restroom and shower. I think using pillow is a good idea and have already implemented it. I am really trying from my side not to irritate my cervix anymore...need loads of goodluck from you guys to keep me hanging here. Thanks again for your message, its great help in the time of stress. I am in CA.
