The amount of weight you should gain depends on your weight before pregnancy. You should gain:

* 25-37 pounds: If you were a healthy weight before pregnancy
* 28-40 pounds: If you were underweight before pregnancy
* 15-25 pounds: If you were overweight before pregnancy

At what rate should I gain weight during my pregnancy?

How much you should gain depends on your weight before you were pregnant and how far along you are in your pregnancy.

* Healthy Weight Before Pregnancy:
o 3-5 pounds during the first trimester
o Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the second trimester
o Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the third trimester
* Underweight Before Pregnancy:
o 5-6 pounds or more in your first trimester this also can depend on how underweight you were before pregnancy & your health care provider´ s recommendations
o 1-2 pounds per week in the second and third trimesters
* Overweight Before Pregnancy:
o Approximately 1-2 pounds in the first trimester
o Approximately 1 pound per week during the last six months

The goal is to keep weight gain as steady as possible because your baby requires a daily supply of nutrients throughout your pregnancy that comes from what you eat. It is okay for your weight gain to fluctuate a little from week to week. However, you should contact your health care provider if you suddenly gain or lose weight, especially in your third trimester. This could be a sign of preeclampsia.

So relax and enjoy your pergnancy. Keep eating healthy diet and take care!

Hi Sowmee,

I can totally understand all ur cravings....but to be very honest its all in your mind....so i wud suggest you to avoid pickles,raw mango and chock. coz all generate heat in your body which is not good for u at the moment.

Here is something, why dont u replace it with less risky things like :

-mango shake or dry mango instead of raw mango
-green corriender and mint chutney instead of pickles
-no chocclates plz.....u can have less sweetened cookies.
-and if u r not able to control then make sure the quantity u consume is less.

Hope this will b of some help to u.Take care and enjoy ur cravings.

Hi Sowmee,

Sorry for being little rude to u.Lets forget everything.

And yes, i had my doctors appointment today..and she was happy to find that i have only gained 5pounds in 6th mnth..whereas i gained 13pounds in 5th mnth.

Now i know where i was going wrong...so here r some tips for u:
-drink lot of water
-avoid oily food(no indian apitizers like samosas plz...)
-avoid sweets
-avoid fruits like mango,lichi etc.
-u will feel hungry...so dont starve ueself..instead have small..small servings after every 2 hours .

These r few things if u cud do that would be gr8.And most importantly ENJOY ur preg. and b happy...ur doing gr8.

BBYE
