Kids are emotionally extremely vulnerable. They blindly trust everybody and their innocent hearts believe almost everything they hear. They have the utmost trust and belief in their parents. For them their parents are their whole world.

Often times the parents say a lot of things to the child that are emotionally damaging. Such words of the parents have a negative impact on the child’s life. A lot of children are under confident or unsure about themselves simply because something their parents had said when they were kids.

Parents might say such things in a fit of anger but it has a lasting impact on kids’ impressionable minds. Parents should keep in consideration the fact that the kids take for granted whatever their parents say. It is the world of gospel to them. When talking to a child or scolding a child, parents must be extremely careful with their words at all times.

Have a quick look at the 10 emotionally harmful things which parents should never say to kids.

1. “You are useless”

Many times parents without thinking tell their kids they are useless. This might not seem like a big deal, but it may affect your child. Children look for confirmation of their abilities from parents. If parents tell kids that they are of no use, it gives them a very negative view of themselves.

2. “We don’t want you”

Many couples have a child without any planning. When the pressure of raising the child becomes too much, they lash out on the child. They say to the child that they did not want to have him or her. Imagine how hurting it is to hear from their parents that they are unwanted?

3. “Don’t talk to me”

It is true that parents have to deal with a lot in their lives. They have to earn and keep the house. At times, your child’s ceaseless patter gets too grating. Yet, you must not tell your child to not talk and annoy you rudely. Explain that you are tired.

4. “You are bad”

Kids develop an image of themselves from the opinion of their parents. If you keep passing negative comments about everything your child does you are emotionally hurting him or her. It ruins his or her self esteem. Try to be more positive around your impressionable kids. Make them understand if they are doing anything wrong.

5. “No”

Do not keep saying “No” all the time to your kids. Not all their demands are unreasonable. If you keep saying “No” it makes your kid extremely sad and that gives way to depression later. Instead of using “No” say what you want to say using positive phrases. If you cannot fulfil a demand which is reasonable do something to make up for it.

6. “Be like your sibling”

Celebrate your kid’s individuality. Don not expect your child to be like their neighbour or sibling. Stop comparing your kid to others.

7. “You will always be dumb”

You must understand that childhood is the best part of their life. If you expect them understand everything and to act like a grown up all the times, they will be sad and gloomy. It will make them depressed as adults.

8. “Leave me alone”

At times you are the only company your kids have. If you keep distancing them, your kid will feel lonely. They would not feel loved. When they grow up they would not connect to you.

9. “You cannot do anything”

Stop thwarting your kid’s attempt. Let them make mistakes and learn. You are emotionally hurting them by restricting them all the time.

10. “You are the worst kid I have ever seen”

Do not label your children as worst. Saying such things to children can hamper their self confidence. A negative impact will get created on their tender minds by hearing such things. They will start thinking that are worth nothing which can lead to depression. Therefore, avoid saying such things to your children.

You should be patient with your kid. They are not mature enough to think for themselves. You should not cause any permanent emotional damage to them in their young age. Children are precious gift from God so treat them like that.
