Heartburn During Pregnancy >>>
Q: I am 3 months pregnant, and have the following problems:
1. Heartburn and acidity.
2. Pain on the left side below the chest.
Your advice would be appreciated. Fareeda (Mumbai, India) |
A: Heart burn and acidity is normal during pregnancy. You should try to have 6 small meals instead of 3 big meals during the course of the day. You should also avoid eating outside food and foods that are very spicy or fried. This will reduce over time, but some women experience it till the very end. Many women do complain of the kind of pain that you mention, but there is no really cause for it. You can attribute it to changes as a result of pregnancy, where your body is going through a lot of changes. As the baby grows in size and moves higher up in the uterine cavity towards the rib cage, the pain cold become quite uncomfortable. But at this stage, it is too early to worry about anything. Q: I am 7 months pregnant. My throat has been burning for a couple of weeks. What should I do? I take a meal every 4 hours and have plenty of liquids in-between. I have been taking iron-tablets (ferium) for the past 2 months. From then onwards my stool is not solid and I pass motion more frequently than I used to. Is this normal? Khushi (Dubai, UAE) |
A: A lot of women go through heart burn (acidity and burning sensation in the throat) during pregnancy. You should have small but frequent meals, say 6 meals instead of 3 during the course of the day. You should also avoid eating outside food, especially food with a lot of spices. Regarding iron, most women complain of harder stools and constipation after starting iron supplements. The softer motions may not be because of iron but could be result of dietary changes. If you experience loose motions (like diarrhoea), you should consult your doctor because treating diarrhoea in time is very important during pregnancy.
