Armed with a scholarship from Bhatkhande University, she had the privilege of training under the venerable guidance of maestros such as the late Pandit Govind Narayan Natu of Gwalior Gharana, the late Smt. Shefali Bannerjee (Disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khansaab of Maihar Gharana) and the late Shri Premsingh Kinot (Disciple of Late Pt. Ratanjankar of Agra Gharana). |

Smt.Shampa Pakrashi has a vast teaching experience of over 30 years. She has introduced many to the delights of Hindustani classical music and her exemplary skill as a teacher is attested to by her students who span all age groups from six to eighty. She has also conducted music workshops on a broad range of topics such as
- Evolution of Hindustani Sangeet (particulaly Vocal)
- Pushtimarg Sangeet
- Place of Krishna In Hindustani Pure Music
- Thumri, Dadra,Tappa- a travel through the courts of Nobles
For the past several years, she has been under the able tutelage of Pandit Askaran Sharma, the renowned vocalist of the Mewati Gharana and a doyen of Pushtimargi Sangeet.
This varied tutelage of over three decades has enabled her to emerge with her unique and endearing style of singing – hailed by many as versatile and imaginative and one that brings out the true beauty of a Raga. The blend of aesthetics and traditional expression that is found in her renditions, has captivated audiences and critics alike.
She has inherited the rich musical legacy of Awadh and Purab, due to her familial roots in Benares and Lucknow. Her soulful renditions of fading musical treasures such as Thumri, Tappa, Daadra, Rasiya, Hori, Kajri, Sawan, Banwari, etc. have earned her numerous accolades.
She also has a strong academic background and holds, among others, a Masters Degree in Philosophy (with Honours) from Lucknow University. |
