Has anyone made a list of things to buy. I know in India we will not buy any products till the child arrives but thought I will make a tentative list go to the shop and see what is available and give the list to someone who can buy it later on for you when the baby arrives. what baby brand is good and avl in India for nappy, bottle etc., if anyone has thought abt the list of things pls put it down so that all of us can make an exhaustive list. most basically i had thought of
1. 2 small plastic buckets for putting used nappies
2. Planning to stich sheets for putting the baby from old cotton sarees
Apart from the baby list have u thought abt the things which we will need.
1. 4-5 front open nighties
2. front open or feeding bra
3. breast pads(do we need it)
try to extend the list and let me know of the best brands avl for the baby as well as for us also.

all the best to all the going to be new moms.

hey, apart from the items on the list,i have also packed the following items which i think will be very useful.
1. breast pump, which will make night time feeds a whole lot easier and,
2. nipple cream cause i believe feeding is going to leave your nipples very dry and soar.
3.dispossable underwear for the first few days after the delivery cause i dont thnk any of us will have the energy to pile and clean during the bleeding period.

and yes, do no forget to pack some of your favourite snacks for the labor period as i have heard that it helps to stock up energy.

thats all i have on my list...
good luck to all.

hi there,

Iam planning to get a stomach belt, to tie around, but that's only after 4 to 5 days of delivery. But not really sure if doctors recommed a belt these days.

hi sowdha,

this is my things to carry to the hospital list. hope you find it useful.. hey all, if i have missed anything, do let me know :-)

Baby bag -
6 sets of clothes (hand-me-downs)(washed and sterilized)
Towels/Soft cloths (washed and sterilized)
Langot [Indian nappies] (hand-me-downs) (washed and sterilized)
Nappies (Can be bought at the hospital chemist shop)
Macintosh
Old Sarees/Chunnis to wrap the baby (washed and sterilized)
Toiletries (powder, oil, etc.)

Mummy's bag -
Gowns
Clothes (bra, underwears, clothes to wear on discharge)
Towel / Face Towels
Toiletries kit
Sanitary napkins – maternity (Can be bought at the hospital chemist shop)
Boppy (feeding pillow)
Nursing pads (Can be bought at the hospital chemist shop)
Chap-stick
Some cash
Mediclaim card
I-pod
Books to read
Water Bottle
Slippers
Own pillow
Watch/Bedside clock
Socks / Scarf

Papa's bag -
Camera
List of people to call
Cash

apart from this you will need stuff like carry cot, bibs, strollers, bolsters, pillows, baby blankets, pacifier, breast pump, sweaters and warm clothes, bottles, pram, etc. But all that can come later.. you can look out for stuff and finalise it. send someone to buy later. i don't really know of any brands - i am picking up clothes, etc from local market here. for toiletries johnson and johnson is a good one, i think.

even my folks are very sensitive about this matter - so i am not allowed to buy anything now.
so i have sourced some stuff from my friends/cousins who had babies recently.
and i plan to buy some essentials from my hospital list secretly and pack my hospital bag this weekend. As otherwise, i am worried there will be a chaos at the hospital.
I have started Week 36 today.

All the best.

hi,
one more thing - i don't know which part of india you are from or which community. but if you have the practice of engaging a massage lady (for you and the baby) in your area/community, you should finalise one beforehand itself.
it might be difficult to organise for one later.

cheers,
prajakta
