Due Date Club September 2004:To Archie - update + query

Name: CHINI

Hi Archie

I had my appointment yesterday. I completed 34 weeks. Before going to the doc, there was a major movement in my belly and I thought that may be the baby had engaged its head. I could feel less pressure in the chest. But when I visited the doc, she said that the baby had turned and was now breech. The position was head down for almost such a long time now. Then why the sudden change in the position at the last minute. I am worried. I do not want to go for a c-section. What are the chances of the baby moving again. Please advice.

Dear Chini,
Lets say not to loose patience and peace ahead of time.

Baby usually like to stay in the head down position and it can turn head down anytime before or around week 36, sometime even at week 37.

The head down baby does not assure a vaginal birth. Look at mine!
The vaginal birth is totally depends on circumstances you face in the labor and delivery room. It's that some babies do tolerate the labor stress and remain calm while some baby can make twist, resulting in cord wrapped around neck -C-section -I went this one.
Some babies those were head down will change head in 180 degree and or in 45 degree to get in breech position. This is reflex reaction while coping the stress caused on baby by labor process. One went this type of change in April or May board. I know another case personally too. So it's not uncommon to get such surprises in labor room as well.

There is plenty of time for baby to head down and try your best to keep calm, you don't want to cause additional stress on your body and indirectly on baby.

Hope this helps.

Hi Archie,

You are probably right. All said and done things can change in the labor room. My husband says c-section is the best option considered its the safest for both mother and child. But its just difficult for me to digest the fact that my fist one was normal and so there is no reaspn for me to get a c-section for the second one. But every labor and childbirth is different.
