Hi all,

I am the mother of a 9mth old baby girl , and my baby has not got any tooth as yet . But recently i noticed that her gums are slightly protruding in front.
My family has a history of protruding teeth , and it requires braces etc to bring it back to line.
I want to prevent this situation for my daughter , occasionaly I push her gums back .. but please let me know if I need to do some thing , so that the teeth are in line.

If anyone has any info on how to prevent malaligned teeth , basically i mean teeth with are not protruding ...pls let me know..

Thanks ,
Leena

hi, please note that this your baby first teeth,,they are goin to fall off at their 4-5-6 years of age..depending on your baby health.
secondly, even if family has history, its not necessary that your child will have it.some 50% of kids had better teeth than their parents :)

teeth arrangement has alot to do with direction in which the teeth were moved by the tongue (often babies do that to comfort themselves from pain),,esp when they were coming out of the gums. if the arrangement of teeth or angle of teeth is not proper the other reason is a gift from forefathers,,like you said.
as of now, if i were you, i would not worry as the first set of teeth are going to fall off, doesnt matter much..
its the other set of teeth that stays lifelong..
pressing your baby gums is not going to help much, because babies teeth has already taken the shape acc to his genetic makeup,,its just that they are inside the gums and finding a right time to come out !! your pressing will not help that.
you can put braces, only if your dr feels the needs of it,,but at 9months, nothing can be done, except wait for your baby to start teething and get a good set of teeth.
avoid giving ne teethers that are gel based,,for a good arrangement of teeth, give him drinkable water teethers that will massage his gumms according to his gums shape and will not pressurise your baby gums to open in wrong direction !
so thats all can be done as of now to prevent odd arrangements of teeth.
Good Luck.

Hi Hetal ,

Thanks a lot for your answer. It gives me relief that I don't have to do anything atleast now. You seem to have a lot of information about babies. :))

Thanks ,
Lina
