I agree with K Radha that the tests done after a miscarriage are different than a fertility work up.Also Clomid is a very successful drug for getting pregnant. Is try to relax as much as possible and be positive. It is very important for you not to worry(I know its hard).I am TTC as well and will be starting it soon.

Kate,my bloodwork for ANA antibodies as well as Lupus coagulum came back fine so the doctor doesn´ t think I am going to need heparin. So I am ready for round 2 and hopefully will have a better outcome this time.I am trying to be postive as much as I can but its not always easy.

I sincerely wish you the best in your efforts and pray that you will have a healthy baby soon.Keep up the good work. You are a great support for all of us.

Thats it for now.Good luck to everyone.

Take care,

Hey Qrs,

The medication won´ t be a problem as long as you are certain you are not pregnant before resuming the course with each cycle. With regard to the tests done after your miscarriage they are different to the ones that are used in doing a fertility work up. Some of the tests that should have been done routinely before deciding on a course of action are:
*Progesterone
*LH
*FSH
*Androgen index
*Estradol
*DHEAS
I know you are quite concerned about your chances of conception which may account for your uneasiness but Clomid is a VERY effective medication that has helped women conceive for about 40 years. Headaches are not uncommon while on this drug but if you begin having visual problem contact your doc right away. Better to walk of the safe side of things. I for one can not wait to hear of your success with clomid! All the best, sincerely!

hi everyone,

thanks for response.well i very well know y clomid is prescribed.i didnt do a blood test, but i guess i will do i.i have just started with the medicine...the thing is what worries me is tht my ovaries should not enlarge with this because i also read somewhere that there is a possibility.

but my another worry is that my cycle is irregular,so doctor prescribed this.i dont know whether it is to regularise period or to induce ovulution.....and to my surprise he has given me a printed prescribtion as to on what date what medicine has to be taken.so im going accordingly and then they said if i dont concieve they will see ovulution through ultrasounds.

im still very confused..anyways thanks.

Hi Diva,

I had used OPK before I went to see a reproductive endocrinologist and since I have PCOS I never ovulated that cycle. However,my doc told me that when you are taking Clomid, you cannot rely accurately on OPK.I had a progeteron test done about a week after hcg to see if I ovulated or not.My progress was monitored through ultrasounds. But I agree with you, that qrs should try to stay positive and take medications as per her doctor´ s recommendations.

Good luck to everyone.

Clomid is not used to regulate a womans cycle, the best medication to do that is the combined contraceptive pill. Clomid is for ovulation induction and as you´ re TTC this is precisely the reason he has prescribed it. Enlargement of the ovaries on Clomid is not common and is not something you should be overly concerned about. Before each course you should be examined for the presence of ovarian cysts as Clomid will cause these to grow further causing cramping and pain, in extreme cases internal bleeding.

25% of women will develop changes in her cervical mucus making it ´ hostile´ while on Clomid so your doc should have checked this and advise you to monitor changes in the mucus yourself. Clomid is given for 5 days only and if a woman fails to ovulate on that dose it is increased for the next cycle... What I do not understand is why you take Clomid for 5 days and Fertomid for another four in the same cycle as they are the same drug. Fertomid is a generic name for Clomid.

Taking TOO much Clomid can interefer with the uterine lining making it unable to respond to estrogen and progesterone stimulation, as a result the egg may not be able to implant in the uterus. Duphastun is a synthetic progesterone which is used to help maintain a healthy lining for ongoing pregnancy should you have a fertilized egg.

Has your doc sent you for ANY blood tests since he began treating you? What tests and examinations has your doctor done before coming to the conclusiom that you need Clomid? While it is a highly effective drug Clomid is all to often abused and given to women with unexplain fertility with out a proper fertility work up. One last thing it is important to rule out pregnancy BEFORE taking Clomid during subsequent cycles as studies on rats have shown an increase of congenital abnormalities.

Hi qrs,

I also have irregular periods. So doc prescribed me Clomid to induce ovulation. As far as I understand, this med is to nduce ovulaton & not to regularise the period.
As far as the enlargement of ovaries, this does not happen to all, it happens only in thecase of hyperstimulation. Enlargement of ovaries is the casewhen any medicine is taken to stiuate the ovaries(like in IVF).
Right now, you be positive, take the medication acording to your doctors chart.

There are a couple of things.
1. Basal body temperature chart
This helps in identifying whether you ovulated with Clomid or not, if ovulated on what date etc.
2. OPK(Ovulation predictor kit)
This also indicates your ovulation date.
The above two can be done by you at home.

If your doctor has decided to monitor your ovulation through ultrasound in the next cycle, it is well & good. Else you can ask your doctor abt BBTchart & OPK.

Take care

Approximately 85% of women taking Clomid will ovulate, so this is quite an effective drug. You could consider posting this question in other forums specifically related to ferility treatement and see what kind of response you get from women who are on clomid. As with any fertility treatment the drugs you take and the specific problems they are being used to treat are to be taken into consideration when assessing their effectiveness. Chances of falling pregnant on Clomid are between 10-22% per cycle, keep in mind that a highly fertile couple has a chance of about 25% so in comparisson this isn' t too bad.

It is advised that you have your progesterone level checked by a blood test between day 21-23 of your cycle, if your progesterone level is high ovulation has occured. If the level if low progesterone levels should be checked a week later (day 28-30). Also if you have has previoud pelvic surgury or pelvic inflamitory disease before begining treatment the doctor should check that the fallopian tubes are open via HSG or laparoscopy. Has your doctor ordered any blood tests for you during your clomid cycle? If by chance your doctor has not than I would seriously recommend seeking a new doctor. In fact anyone undergoing any form of fertility treatment should really be seeing a specialist in that area rather than a GP.

Has your doctor explained why ovulation is being induced? The three main reasons are 1.Hypogondadotrophic hypogonadism 2. PCOS and 3.Ovarian Failure (basically a lack of eggs. 1 & 2 respond quite well to ovulation induction but 3 is best treated by IVF however I am assuming you are not menapausal so 3 isn' t really a consideration. Hypogondadotrophic hypogonadism doesn' t respond well to clomid and needs to be treated with FSH. Have a chat with your doctor and find out as much information as you can about your condition to ensure you are getting the BEST treatment for your condition... I sincerely wish you all the best in your attempt to fall pregnant, my it be very soon that you' re holding a baby of your own.

Hi Qrs,

I replied to your earlier post titled ' CLOMID' , yes I took Clomid for 3 mos. and the third month I was pregnant.
If I remember correctly, the first month the pills were 50mg,
2nd month= 100mg and
3rd month=150mg.

The most imp. thing is to be calm and peaceful. I totally understand what you are going thru, because I, too, tried for nearly 2 yrs. before I took clomid.

I wish you the very best.

hi qrs.

I also have irregular periods. Doctors identified it as PCOS.
Clomid is given to assist in pregnancy, it helps you to ovulate. I had 3 clomid cycles, where in 2 I didn' t ovulate in one I ovulated but no pregnancy.
Clomid is absolutely safe & it helps in pregnancy by the way of ovulation.

So go ahead & good luck with your Clomid cycle.
