I am a 25 year old woman, married with a 2 year old daughter. I am employed in a bank. I got my head shaved in Tirupati three months ago along with my husband and daughter at the instance of my m-i-l. Though I was reluctant in the beginning, I really enjoyed the experience. My m-i-l is very happy that I got the gundu done. Now I have about 2 inches of hair. My husband, in-laws and some friends are saying that I could keep my head a boycut for about a year as short hair looks nice on me.
Now my question is, how much does a boy cut cost in Bangalore in ladies beauty parlour and how much does it cost in a regular barber shop? Do barber shops cut ladies hair? I do not mind getting it cut in barber shop if the cost is significantly less.
Also, which way is better to have a boy cut - with scissors or clippers? My husband does not mind one way or the other as long as I enjoy it.
I hope some ladies who have experience of getting boy cuts answer these questions.

Today I had my first boy cut in the barber shop. As I already said earlier I enjoyed the Tirupati head shave also. Now I really, really enjoyed the boy cut that I had today. And since my m-i-l and husband are also happy with my looks with the short boy cut I got today, I doubt that I will ever grow my hair long again.
Self and hubby went to the barbershop early in the morning around 6-30. The barber had just opened the shop and one other gentleman was waiting for a shave. We decided to follow the queue. So the barber took the other gentleman for shave. It took about 10 minutes. I sat in the chair and the cloth was wrapped around me. My husband told him ' machine cut, short on back and sides, combable on top' . The barber combed my hair into a boyish style with parting on left side, bent my head to the left, started the electric clipper with a 1/8 inch attachment and ran it on my right temple. Oh! what a great feeling! He took the clipper about an inch above my ear, clipped allround to about the same height. The result was a very short hair like velvet. Then he moistened the top hair, neatly scissored into shape. Since we are religious, m-i-l had told not to use razor (to be used only in temple head shave). I abided by that. So the barber took off the attachment and clippered the hairline very close to skin. The look is highly boyish but really good. I am very happy and so are my husband and in-laws. I will get this cut once a month.

My wife is sporting the boysih hair cut for past 15 years and being admired by her collegues in her office and enjoying the same. Her some of the friends have also now joined her insporting the boyish hair cut.
She is also liked by my family members and supporing her for her look. She is slim and tall and have a thick hair, as such the boyish cut look very good to her. No exageration, she is envy for society members where we stay in mumbai. I like her overall look.
We both are going to the same saloon and the barber for past 12 years. We have a very good and co-ordial relations with him and the shop owner too.
We both congratulate you and your hubby for bold decision. Go and enjoy your cut. Post your experience too.

My husband has agreed to accompany me to the barbershop tomorrow. Tonight we met the barber in the barber shop and he said that once in a while teenage girls do come in for trims and boycuts and he does not mind. I am least bothered about onlookers. Let them see and giggle. Who cares!
So tomorrow I will have a short boycut with clippers.

With my experience in saloon, the saloon guys/girls are professionally trained for hir straightning/colouring/other treatments but they will have very little experience in hair cutting. Specially short boycuts..
I tried a medium boycut for first two times, and having a not bad look. I have been charged Rs.500 in that Air cobditioned unisex hair saloon in Chennai..
For a change , I just tried the local barber shop near our residence. I went there along with my husband in a tuesday afternoon,there was not so much crowd there then. The barber cut my hair as per my wish. First two times, I cut my hair with scissors only but next time onwards, I asked him to try electric clippers...
Do not try manual clipppers as my hubby told that it is not so smoothy..
I found that barbers are expert in cutting hair both with scissors and with clippers..For boycut, there is no quiestion..
Barbers will shave the hair above neck and ears well and they will help you look what you really want..
I have got short boycuts ast three times and everybody commented on my look. Am having my haircut with my hubby so we are selecting styles for each other..
For short hair cuts, u can go for haircut with sides and back cut very short and top hair some what long.This will be very beautiful for ladies..
Pls note that in barbershops, there will be other guys looking on your haircut so better to go in shops with separate cabins..
Also go with your husbnd
Good haircutting and low cost..better is barbershop for boycuts..
For bobs or other long cuts, u can prefer saloons or beauty parlors

Please see my posting Repeat Gundu dated 7th June 2014 and the posting My Boy Cut dated 5th Oct 2014 and the various contents in them.
I had my Tirupati gundu in June 2014. It was a very joyous occasion and I and my husband and in-laws felt very happy.
In Jan third week, my 10 month old son's mundan was conducted at home. Everyone giggled seeing a boycut lady (myself) keeping a kid on lap for the celebrations - a first time in our family. When we did mundan for my daughter when she turned 10 month old, I was having long braid.
Since it is a foregone decision that I have a biennial Tirupati gundu and a boy cut in between, I will have my Tpt gundu in May this year. My husband, myself, my 5 year old daughter and the young son, all will return bald.

Hi Geetha,
I have my haircut today and for a change, I tried Inverted bob.
I fixed an appointment in the saloon on town and went there in the evening.
As I´ ve already fixed appointment, I got seated easily.
First, he had done shampoo washing and then the saloon guy asked what type of haircut I want.Then I asked whether he could give me an Inverted bob and he told he can give me the same.
I sat on the chair, then he put the cape on me and wrapped on my back.
He also put tissue paper on my neck..
I told him to have a zero clippercut on my back side and sides.He asked me the height of clippercut then I told him two inches above ears on sides amd three inches on back.
He combed my hair first, then made my hair into partitions and then he took the clippers...
I was waiting to see the surprise..
He bend my head and I closed my eyes..
Trrrrrrrrrrrrr
The clippers sounded and I felt a nice vibration on my back..It was a wonderful experience.He ran the clipper on my back side and made almost bald on my back.
Then he started his work on the sides..
The both sides are now completed.He then untied the partitioned hair and then he cut the sides just covering my ears.He cut the back side to just above the nape.
He had comleted his work with the scissors and then he dried my hair using hair drier..
And then he styled my hair and now, all is completed..
I shaked my head and it was very nice to see me in my new look.I paid the money and went home and I had to attend a function..
I attended the function wearing saree and everybody commented on my this look with saree..
Was a wonderful experience..
After reaching home, my hubby ran his hand over the bald portions and it was a nice experience..

Being a women why did you cut your hair. I understand its difficult to maintain long hair, but its wonderful to keep long hair. I am a male, still i keep long hairs upto my waist.. I give sufficient time to maintain it, wash twice a week, daily oiling(very heavy) in morning and night followed by lice combing for 30 mins. washing and conditioning on sunday morning followed by drying and heavy oiling then afternoon sitting with maid for nitpicking and licecombing for almost 2 hrs.

Pls ask barber to cut yout hair on top portion of your head with scissors and the back and side portions with clipper.This will be good looking..
Dont go for full clippercut-military cut
Also ask him to shave the end of side and back portions..
