I had read a question long back about how to apply henna.
This is what I do.
I take henna powder and add curd (the sour the better) and one egg's white content and mix it very well. Keep it for about 4 hours and then apply it to your hair. seperate hair into parts and start applying at the scalp.
One more thing, I am relatively new to this topic but as far as hair care was concerned these Everyone in my family have beautiful, long and shiny hair (no not oily but shiny).
Coconut oil is very good for hair.
hibiscus leaves and flowers work as very good conditioner.
henna, curry leaves etc are natural coloring agents. It helps cool our general body temperature.
There is a plant called eclipta alba. the leaf is also very good coloring and cooling agent.
Using shikakai instead of shampoo keeps you from receding hairline.
Rice kanji (the water that you drain after cooking rice ie when you make rice directly on the stove and not from pressure cooker) is very good cooling agent. It is also a great conditioner.
saambraani or samgiri is powdered and sprayed on red, burning charcoal and a bamboo basket is held between your hair and the charcoal to dry the hair.
Lemon is good for Pita type bodies (Acc to Ayurveda any human body is proportionately made of 3 things vada, pita and kapha. When the balance is disturbed the human can get sick. To make a long story short. Pita type of people are mostly stressed. They feel anger, nausea, etc., often. Half a lemon can be rubbed in the scalp and after 10 minutes washed off with plain water.
Fresh Neem leaves are collected, washed and put in the water which we use to wash our hair and body. Neem is the best germicide, Nature has to offer. The bitterness in Neem leaves is so good for our body. Unfortunately, Neem is found only in S. India.
Rose petals, orange, lemon rind, hibiscus leaves and flowers, curry leaves, henna leaves, lentils etc are sun dried and ground along with shikakai pods to give incense to hair.
We were advised to apply coconut oil to our scalp (take it in the tip of your fingers and rub the scalp vigorously) and wait until 20-30minutes before washing off our hair with the herbal powder. After washing with this powder and rinsed as well as possible the rice kanji is applied to condition it.
I don't rely on shampoos and conditioners and other chemical products. These stuff may give you the results you want for the time being but it will ruin your hair in the long run. Think about it. These shampoos and conditioners were originally developed by people who do not have dense black hair like we Indians do. I have been in the US for almost a decade now and I have only been using the stuff I mentioned above. Everytime I visit my folks I bring the things that are unavailable and store it for a long time. I have never used chemical products and never intend to. I think even though I have naturally beautiful hair it is because of right maintainance I am able to keep it beautiful. What you get God decides but how you keep it is in your hands.
