hi indu, for a 8 month old it is safe enough to sit as far backbone strength is considered. however, i have seen babies at 8 months not able to support themselves. i would say only one line for it that if you think your baby is able to support himself well enough even for a second, then its safe for you to go ahead, motivate him to sit more with some good toys to play while sitting ! make sure whnever he sits, put pillows around him, as babies tend to lose balance and just throw themselves to ground,,,just to be on safer side.
Latha, if you have carpet on the floor, its safe even if he falls while even standing,,just quoting you the lines of my dr...
for my baby when she started crawling, sitting, i often use to tug pillows around her for her safe landing ! and even though i had a carpetted flour, i use to put a nicely washed comforter on the carpet and let baby do rock and roll on it ! to my notice, it also prevented my baby from having knee rashes, which happens to new crawlers even b4 they crawl and also no matter which way baby falls on back or on the front,,comforter gives a nice support !
so good luck,,check for ne hard hit,,c his clues like behaviour, sleeping times, food intake, any bleeding, fever, tummy discomfort or any change from ordinary schedule of your baby, esp after baby had injury or a hit somewhere, call your dr and take him to dr !
always listen to baby signs for comforts...
good luck
