I m from a brahmin family and it recently decided that my sacred thread ceremony would be done on me.my older sister ,nisha wants my sacred thread ceremony to be very traditional.she wants me to get tonsured and keep some hair behind(known as shikha or kudimi) and also she wants to pierce my ears and make me wear earrings.i m feeling bad of being tonsured and keeping kudimi and also of wearing earrings and looking feminine.why is my sister insisting on this? what can I do now?also she eats non vegetarian food but forces me not to eat because I am a \" brahmin boy \" according to her

a sacred thread ceremony,better known as upanayanam,munj or punool, is meant to be a traditional affair!!ofcourse it MUST include tonsuring,keeping a kudimi and ear piercing of the boy.it also has many other ceremonies,so your sister nisha is right in demanding that she must perform the above on you. narayan replied. congratulations on the confirmation of ur thread ceremony... how young r u?
