Health Concerns:Placental abruption

Hi ,

My sister is 7 weeks 4 days preg. She had a slight placental abruption - slight bleeding with clotting. She's been asked to increase her progestrone dosage to thrice a day ( previously twice ) and take bed rest.

Just want to know if anyone has been through this or knows anything about it. Is this somethng that will resolve itself ? What are the chances of this pregnancy continuing considering it's so early in the preganancy ?

Archie or anyone who's knowledgable in this, please do reply - I am worried.

It would be rather difficult to say it's placenta abrupto.
I suspect that be a placenta previa and low levels of progesterone, combined leading to bleeding.

In either event whether bleeding is due to placenta previa or low progesterone it's not uncommon to experience in first trimester.

your sister's body is in process making more progesterone and will reach to plateau somewhere in second trimester from where bleeding due to low progesterone would be stopped.

However, if she has previa then somewhere in second trimester or in third trimester she will get relief.

Putting on progesterone suppliment is wonderful option, she will be immensly benefited from that. A bed rest and complete hydration (drinking 10-12 glasses of water) would help preventing from dehydration and exertion.

keep me updated.

Hi Archie,

Just wanted to let you know my sis again had some spotting - red this time , not brown like she did last time. The doc gave her Primolut Depot injection and advised further bed rest . I really hope everything goes OK

Hi Archie,

Thanks for replying - guess you check this board once in a while !!

My sis went for a scan at 9 wk 4 days . The baby has grown and doc says growth is fine. But there's still some bleeding around the sac - doc said that needs to be absorbed - it's old bleeding.

Will pass on the advice to my sis reg the hydration. She's continuing with bed rest and progestrone at least until 12 weeks.
After 12 wks , she will see doc and decide if she needs to continue bedrest or can she work from home ?

Thanks a ton,
Minka
